Wix Payments: Getting a 1099-K Form

In the United States, all payment card and third-party payment networks - including Wix Payments - are required to report merchant sales activity for goods and services to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), as well as the relevant state authorities. This is done using a 1099-K form.

In this article, learn about:

Requirements to qualify for a 1099-K

Wix Payments will provide you with a 1099-K form if you fulfill the following federal requirements:

  • You are, or are presumed to be, a U.S. person

  • Your Wix Payments account was opened in the United States

  • Your account has processed transactions that exceed $5,000 USD in total gross payments within a single calendar year.
Note: The IRS assesses your online gross payments based on your Tax ID. As such, Wix Payments accounts sharing a single Tax ID are assessed all together.

We will make sure your 1099-K form is filed with the IRS and the relevant state authorities. A copy of the form will be available in your Wix Payments account.

If your gross payments meets the relevant state requirements, we will make sure a copy of your 1099-K is also filed with the state tax authority.

Where can I see my information on a 1099-K form?

When reviewing your 1099-K, the most relevant fields are:

  1. Name / company name

  2. Address

  3. Tax Identification Number (SSN / EIN / ITIN)

  4. Your gross payments

  5. Number of transactions

  6. State information

Can I update personal / business information on my 1099-K form?

Among other things, your 1099-K form contains your:

  • Name / company name

  • Address

  • Tax Identification Number (SSN / EIN / ITIN)

  • State information

If this information on your form matches your business information for the preceding calendar year, you don't need to do anything.

If you need to update any of this information, contact Wix Customer Care. If an update is made, a new 1099-K form will be generated for you. You will be notified when the new form is ready and available to download.

Note: If your personal / business info is updated, your Wix Payments account needs to be re-verified. You can still accept payments during this time, but your payouts will remain on hold until successful verification.

What should I do if I believe the payments information on my 1099-K form is incorrect?

Wix Payments works with its provider partners to calculate your gross payments according to IRS guidelines. You can verify your payments by reviewing your Wix Payments settlement report and checking it against your 1099-K.

If the figures don't match, or if you believe any other information is incorrect, contact Wix Customer Care and we’ll investigate the discrepancy.

If an update is required, a new 1099-K form will be generated for you. We’ll send you an email when the new form is ready and available to download.

Does my 1099-K form show information from all my payments in Wix?

If you have a Wix Payments account, are located in the United States, and have met federal thresholds, your 1099-K shows all your gross payments earned through Wix Payments for the preceding calendar year.

Note: Manual Payments are not included in your 1099-K form.

If you have additional payment providers - such as PayPal - active in your site, you should receive a separate 1099-K from each of those payment providers, assuming you've met the relevant requirements.

For issues related to providers other than Wix Payments, please contact your payment provider directly.

Why don't I see a 1099-K form in my Wix Payments account?

If you do not see a 1099-K available for download in your Tax Documents page, it is most likely because you did not meet the requirements to qualify for a 1099-K.

Note: Wix Payments account owners, Co-Owners, and Payments Admins are eligible to view the 1099-K. Learn more about roles and permissions.

Have the requirements for a 1099-K form changed for this year?

No. The IRS has recently announced a delay in the implementation of the lower threshold that was planned for 2023.

This means the requirements and thresholds to receive a 1099-K form remain as they were in 2022. A lowered threshold is planned for 2024.

Which email address should I check for notifications about my 1099-K from Wix Payments?

The email address used to set up your Wix account is the same email we will send updates regarding your 1099-K form.

Note: Make sure to check your Spam folder if you’re expecting a notification from Wix Payments and it hasn't arrived yet.

Why did I receive a 1099-K if I did not meet the federal threshold?

The IRS assesses your online gross payments based on your Tax ID. As such, Wix Payments accounts sharing a single Tax ID are considered collectively.
Therefore, while you may receive multiple 1099-Ks that seem to be below the assessment threshold, together they are deemed eligible.
