Activating Private Registration for a Wix Domain

When you purchase a domain from Wix, you can choose to pay an additional fee for private registration. This ensures that your name and contact information aren't publicly visible in the WHOIS directory.

Private registration is available when purchasing your domain, or when you manually extend its registration for at least one year.

You can to turn this setting off at any time in the Domains section of your Wix account.

Purchasing Privacy Protection while extending a domain

To add private registration to an existing domain subscription, extend your domain registration for at least an additional year and choose the Private registration option.

To extend domain registration and purchase private registration:

1. Go to Domains in your Wix account.

2. Click Extend next to the relevant domain.

1. Select a registration period (e.g., extend by an additional one, two, or three years) and click Continue.

2. Select Full privacy protection and click Continue.

3. Enter your payment information and click Submit Purchase.

Turning off Privacy Protection for your domain

You can switch private registration off in your WIx account if you change your mind, and you can switch it on again at any time.

Note:

It may take up to 48 hours for the privacy settings to be updated in the WHOIS database.

To turn off private registration:

1. Go to Domains in your Wix account.

2. Click the Domain Actions icon  next to the relevant domain.

3. Click Edit contact info.

4. Click Show more next to Privacy Protection.

5. Click Turn off privacy protection.

6. Click Turn Off Privacy in the pop-up that appears.

To turn private registration back on:

Click Turn on privacy protection next to Privacy Protection.

Is it possible to get a refund if I change my mind?

The fee for private registration is not refundable.  You can turn off the privacy setting if you want your name and contact information to be available to view on the WHOIS database.

Can I apply private registration to my current domain subscription?

No, you cannot apply privacy protection to an existing domain subscription. If you're purchasing a new domain you can add it as an option during the purchase process. If you already have a domain, you can extend your domain subscription and add privacy protection to your cart during the extension process.

Can I purchase private registration for a .co.uk domain?

No, it is not possible to purchase private registration for a .co.uk domain.

What personal information is still available publicly for EU-based domains that have purchased private registration?

If you are an EU citizen and you turn off privacy, the following info will be public in WHOIS:
state/province, country, and organization name.
