- CMS: Selling Items from Catalog Collections | Wix Expert
< Back Advanced features CMS CMS: Selling Items from Catalog Collections Turn your CMS (Content Management System) collection into a sellable catalog and manage content and commerce in one place. Catalog collections are a good fit when your items already live in the CMS, or when you want to sell content-driven items like guides, rentals, digital downloads, art, or courses without building a traditional product catalog first. With catalog collections, you manage your items in a collection and use Wix commerce features like cart, checkout, payments, discounts, and order management. If you sell physical items, you can also set up shipping and tax collection. Before you begin: You need to add CMS to your site if you haven't already. Upgrade your site to a plan that supports selling online when you're ready to sell your items. You need to set up at least one payment method before customers can complete checkout. Catalog collections are best for content-first selling. If you need product variants, advanced inventory tools, or more complex store setups, Wix Stores may be a better fit. Choose how you want to create a catalog collection You can start with an existing collection or create a new catalog collection. Choose the path that matches where your content already lives. Creating a new catalog collection Use this method if you are starting from scratch and want to create a collection for items you plan to sell. Setting up your selling experience After your catalog collection is ready, you need pages where customers can browse items and purchase them. In most cases, that means adding dynamic pages and connecting purchase actions to buttons. After your catalog collection is ready, you need pages where customers can browse and buy your items. In most cases you add a dynamic page for your catalog, then customize it to fit your site. Before you begin: Make sure to create your catalog collection before adding dynamic pages for it. Adding dynamic pages for your catalog Catalog collections use dynamic item pages and dynamic list pages to display collection content on your site. The item page shows one item at a time, and the list page shows multiple items together. Add a dynamic page to show your catalog items on your site. Choose a Catalog Item Page to show one item at a time, or a Catalog List Page to show several items together. You don't need to connect these pages yourself. Publish your site when you're ready for the changes to go live. Adding purchase actions to a dynamic page If you added a Catalog Item Page or Catalog List Page , you already have purchase buttons on it. Use the steps below to add another button, or to add purchase actions to a blank page or to a dynamic page you created before you started selling. A purchase action button is a regular button or image connected to a dataset. Each one has a click action — Add to cart or Buy now — that decides what happens when a customer clicks it. On a list page, you can put a purchase button inside a repeater so customers can add items without opening each item page. Studio Editor Go to your editor and navigate to the relevant dynamic page. Add a regular button or image to use as your purchase action button. Click the button or image, then click the Connect to CMS icon . Make sure the dataset connects to your catalog collection. Click the Click action connects to dropdown and select the action you want to assign to the button: Add to cart: When clicked, a side panel opens where the customer can add the item to their cart. Buy now: When clicked, the customer navigates to the checkout page where they can purchase the item. Click Change Text on the button to customize the static text that displays on the button (e.g. "Add to cart" or "Buy now"). Alternatively, you can display dynamic text from your collection by selecting the relevant field from the Label connects to dropdown in the Connect Button panel. Repeat these steps to add another 'Add to cart' or 'Buy now' button to the page. (Recommended) Add a 'Cart icon' button if you don't already have one: Click Add Elements on the left, then click Store . Click Cart Icon , then click and drag the Cart Icon into place. Publish your site when you're ready for the changes to go live. Wix Editor Go to your editor and navigate to the relevant dynamic page. Click the Choose a dataset dropdown and select a dataset connected to your catalog collection. Managing your orders Orders from catalog collections are managed from your site's dashboard. This is where you can review purchases and handle fulfillment steps. Learn more about managing your orders . FAQs Click for answers to common questions about selling items from CMS catalog collections. How is this different from Wix Stores? Catalog collections are a good fit when your CMS collection is the main source of truth for the items you sell. Wix Stores is usually a better fit if you need store-first features like product variants, more advanced merchandising, or more complex inventory workflows. Can I sell digital files from catalog collections? Yes. If your collection includes a 'Digital asset' field and that field is mapped as the digital file for sale, customers can receive a secured file after purchase. Can I use automations with catalog collections? Catalog collections work with Wix commerce automations for actions like purchases and abandoned carts. What happens to my existing dynamic pages if I enable selling? Your existing dynamic pages stay in place. If you want visitors to purchase from those pages, add buttons and connect them to the relevant purchase actions . Can I import a CSV file to create a catalog collection? You cannot currently import a CSV file to create a new catalog collection. As a workaround, you can import your CSV file into a regular collection first, then convert that collection into a catalog collection. This is useful if you want to bulk-add items before setting up selling. After you have a catalog collection, you can import a CSV file directly into that existing collection. How do customers receive digital files? Customers receive the file through the digital delivery flow after purchase. Can I format prices with currency symbols? Yes. Use the PRICE expression function to display 'Number' field values with your site's currency symbol and formatting. Connect a text element to your catalog collection using a dataset, select Expression as the connection type, and enter PRICE(price) — replacing "price" with the relevant number field from your collection. Learn more about using the PRICE function . What happens if I duplicate a collection field that is mapped to a catalog field? When you duplicate a field that is mapped to a catalog field, only the original field remains mapped to the catalog field. For more insights, click Go to Blog Overview at the top right to see more data about your blog's performance . Note: This section only appears if your site has received blog views in the last 60 days. FAQs Click a question to learn more about the Highlights page. How are sessions from AI platforms counted? Visitor sessions from AI platforms are counted when an AI bot includes your site in its response and a visitor clicks the link to your site. For example, if someone asks an AI platform (e.g. ChatGPT, Gemini) "What are the best dog grooming services near me?" and the AI includes a link to your site in its response, a session is counted when the user clicks the link to visit your site. How are user queries on AI counted? User queries on AI are counted whenever an AI bot scans your site in response to a question asked on an AI platform. User queries on AI by page counts those queries broken down by pages, meaning it shows which specific pages were scanned by bots. For example, if someone asks an AI platform "Where can I find organic groceries?" and the AI's bot crawls your site when generating its answer, this is counted as a user query on AI. Note: This metric does not tell you whether this person ended up visiting your site or if the AI platform showed a link to your site in its response. Why aren't AI widgets appearing on my page? AI widgets appear on the Highlights page if your site meets the following thresholds: Your site needs at least 5 site sessions from AI in the last 60 days to view data for sessions from AI platforms . Your site needs at least 50 AI bot visits in the last 60 days to view data for AI bot visits by page . If your site does not have this data, you'll see other stats instead. For example, instead of 'AI bot visits by page' you may see 'Top paid ads'. Can I access this page on my mobile device? Yes, you can access your site's highlights on the go with the Wix app or Wix Studio app. Wix app: Go to your site in the Wix app. Tap Analytics at the bottom. Wix Studio app: Go to your site in the Wix Studio app. Tap Manage . Tap Analytics and select Analytics Highlights. Tip: Scroll down to see data for different overviews and pages, such as the Traffic Overview and Insights page . How can I see a more in-depth breakdown of a specific metric? You can go to the metric's overview page by clicking Go to X Overview at the top right of a section or see an Analytics report for that metric by clicking View Report beneath a statistic. You can also click the View Reports drop-down at the top right of the Highlights page to see a full list of your recently viewed or saved reports. The recommended reports provided are personalized based on your site's actual data and activity. Why do I see differences between data on the Highlights page and other Wix Analytics pages? There are a few reasons for why you may notice differences when comparing the Highlights page to other Wix Analytics overviews or reports: The Highlights page shows marketing data from the last 30 days, including today . If you go to the full Marketing Overview, you will see data from the last 30 days up to yesterday. The Highlights page displays real-time data , while other pages (e.g. Analytics reports or Behavior Overview) have a 1-hour delay. This may cause minor discrepancies in the numbers shown. Wix Analytics only tracks site visitors who have given their consent to data collection. This means visitor numbers may appear lower compared to tools that track all visitors.
