- Studio Editor: About Page Structure (Parent, Child and Sibling Elements) | Wix Expert
< Back Studio, Partners & Enterprise Wix Studio Studio Editor: About Page Structure (Parent, Child and Sibling Elements) When structuring site pages, you are essentially nesting elements within sections and / or containers and layout tools. For example, placing text inside a container box creates a relationship between the text and container, derived from Modern HTML and CSS concepts. Use this article to learn more about page structure, including parent-child relationships between elements, page layers, and more. Parent-child relationships between elements When you place an element inside a container or layout tool (e.g. grid, stack), it attaches to that tool or container. This creates a parent-child relationship. For example, adding a logo to a header makes the logo the 'child', and the header the 'parent'. Similarly to CSS, the design (i.e. size, position, padding, etc.) of a parent container influences its child elements. Adding padding to a container, for example, makes the child elements smaller in order to accommodate the change. Learn more about sizing elements Did you know? New elements you add are automatically docked to the top and the left / right of the parent element. You can adjust the child element's position manually by disabling auto docking . When you stack elements , they're placed inside a flexbox which acts as the parent. Creating the page structure When planning the design of a site, it's important to begin by creating a layered structure. We recommend creating the parent containers first, then adding child elements by dragging and dropping them in the right place. Layers on a page In the Studio Editor, the structure you create is reflected the Layers panel. The following layers make up the structure of the site: Page: From the Layers panel, you can edit the page's background color and add padding. Click the More Actions icon next to the page name to control these settings. Sections: Every page is made up of at least one section, and you can create as many as your client needs. Most sections contain layout tools and containers (e.g. cells, stacks, etc.). Containers and layout tools: Nest elements within parent containers to ensure they maintain position and spacing across all screen sizes. Add containers , or layout tools such as repeaters and flexboxes . Elements: These are the elements you add from the Add Elements panel (e.g. text, buttons, media, etc.). Dock single elements , or stack multiple elements to ensure consistent order and spacing across screen sizes. Re-parenting elements Moving a child element into a new parent element is referred to as "re-parenting". To re-parent an element, simply drag and drop it inside the new parent. Finding an element's place in the hierarchy When selecting an element on the canvas, a breadcrumbs bar at the bottom left corner shows its hierarchy. This lets you see the element's parent, grandparent and so on, helping you navigate through the page's layers and understand their structure. Hovering over an element's blue label on the canvas also shows its hierarchy. In the example below, hovering over the Menu label reveals that it's nested under a cell within a header section. Structuring sibling elements Siblings are elements sharing the same direct parent. For example, the text and vector art in the below image are siblings, with the container as their parent: If sibling elements are in certain layout tools (e.g. container, repeater, etc.), they may affect each other's size and position. Designing this relationship can be useful in creating a responsive site, as you can prevent elements from overlapping in smaller screen sizes. In the example below, you can see the margins that are automatically created between sibling elements: Structural changes across breakpoints The Layers panel shows you the hierarchy of a page's content (sections, containers / layout tools, and elements) and allows you to adjust them as needed. The page hierarchy is part of the HTML structure of the site, which means changes you make to it are reflected across all breakpoints. For example, when you separate a parent and a child (e.g. text and its container), that separation applies to all breakpoints. - Email Marketing: Using Personalized Content in Your Campaigns | Wix Expert
< Back Promoting your site Sending email marketing campaigns Email Marketing: Using Personalized Content in Your Campaigns Personalize your email campaigns by using dynamic values. Dynamic values are placeholders in your email that will insert your recipient's personalized information, like a first or last name. Adding this personal touch to a campaign significantly increases interest in your email. Use personalized content in both the campaign's text and subject line to best engage your recipients. You can also add fallback text so your recipient won't see a blank space if the data is not available. Note: Personalized content doesn't appear in test email campaigns . Your recipients will still see them when you send the campaign. Adding personalized content to your campaign's text You can include personalized content in any of your email campaign's text elements. Add your recipient's name, email address and/or your site's URL to make the content personal and exciting to read. To add personalized content to your campaign text: Go to Email Marketing in your site's dashboard. Click Edit next to an existing campaign, select a template, or create a new one. Click any text element or add a new one. Click where you want to add the dynamic value. Click + Add Personalized Content under Styles . Select the value from the drop-down (e.g. contact last name, contact birthday, etc.) (Optional) Write a fallback text in the text box. Adding personalized content to your campaign's subject line When you're ready to send your campaign, draw your recipients' attention to your email by including their details in the subject line or preview text. To add personalized content to the subject line or preview text: Go to Email Marketing in your site's dashboard. Click Edit next to an existing campaign, select a template, or create a new one. When you're done editing, click Next . Add at least one recipient and click Next . Click Edit next to Subject line. Click where you want to add the dynamic value. Click + Personalize under the subject line and/or preview text. Select the value from the drop-down (e.g. contact last name, contact birthday, etc.) (Optional) Write a fallback text in the text box. FAQs Click a question to learn more about using dynamic values. What is an example of using personalized content in an email? Some common examples of personalized content include the recipient's name or address. For example, insert the content [Contact First Name] in the email text 'Thanks for subscribing [Contact First Name]' to personalize the text to the name of the recipient. What is fallback text? If data for the personalized content is not available, the fallback text you enter appears in its place. For example, if you include your recipient's first name in the email title, you can add fallback text like "dear customer" so the title still makes sense if their first name isn't in the system. Can I add personalized content to emails using the mobile app? No. You can only choose variables from a list when using desktop. Why are the personalized content fields in my emails not displaying correctly? Dynamic fields may display as placeholders when the data source (e.g. a contact field) is missing or incorrectly set up. To resolve this: Ensure the relevant fields (such as name, email, etc.) are properly mapped to the dynamic fields in your email template. If a contact is missing some details, make sure to complete them in your contact list. If this email was created for an automation, make sure to test the automation by submitting the form and verifying the email content. Why aren't the placeholders for my personalized content translated when my email is not in English? Personalized content placeholders in the email composer will always be in English even if the content and website language are not English. However, when an email is sent out, personalized content should be reflected in the correct language. This article is credited to the Wix team - https://support.wix.com/ and we thank them for that! - Wix Stores: About Inventory Management | Wix Expert
< Back Managing your business Business solutions & apps Wix Stores: About Inventory Management One of the most important aspects about running an efficient online store is staying on top of inventory management. This article will walk you through some of the decisions you need to make to manage inventory smoothly for your business. Should you track exact quantities? Wix Stores offers 2 methods of inventory management. You can choose one method for all your items, or choose different methods for different products. Marking products as 'In Stock' or 'Out of Stock' When creating or editing a product, you can leave the Track inventory quantity toggle off. This means you manually assign an inventory status for each product or variant ("In Stock" or "Out of Stock") and update when needed. This method may be best for new businesses that don't yet have a lot of sales or businesses that sell only a few products. Tracking specific levels For many merchants, tracking specific inventory levels is a crucial part of their business. When you create a product or variant, you can enter a specific stock amount. For example, when creating a blue hat product, you can set the stock level to show that you have 10 blue hats. Then, when a customer buys one of the hats, the inventory amount is automatically reduced to 9. If that same hat comes in 2 sizes, you need to manage inventory for each of those variants. Updating stock levels You can update the inventory level of a particular product or variant by selecting the product in the Products tab and updating the inventory. When you want to update inventory levels for more than one product, you can save time by doing so in the Inventory tab. There, you can more quickly update each product individually. You can also select multiple products and update them in one go. Learn more about updating inventory levels . Selecting what triggers inventory levels to update When you track specific inventory levels, those levels update when a customer makes a purchase. However, you can choose exactly when the update occurs, when the order is placed or when you receive payment. Each of these options makes sense for certain stores, depending on a variety of factors. Learn how to choose the best inventory update setting for your business . Managing inventory for multiple locations If you use the Wix POS Register in your brick & mortar store, you can manage inventory for your online store plus each of your physical locations right in your Wix dashboard. Learn how to set up inventory management for multiple locations . FAQs What do customers see on my site when a product is out of stock? When inventory for an item is zero, the "Add to Cart" button automatically changes. The button color changes to gray and the text changes to "Out of Stock". Tips: While it's not possible to customize the design, you can customize the text of the "Out of stock" message . You can set up back-in-stock notifications so customers can ask for an email notification when the item is available. Can I display low stock indications in the product page? If you track inventory levels, you can encourage shoppers to purchase products that will soon be out of stock by displaying a low stock message on the product page. Once your inventory for a specific item dips below 10, the message automatically appears. To display a message, go to the Settings tab in the product page and select the checkbox next to Low stock message . Can I update inventory levels for multiple products at once? Yes, you can do so in the Inventory tab. Start by selecting to products you want to update and then make your changes. Tip: Inventory for orders up to 300 items can be updated at once in the Inventory tab. Learn more about updating inventory levels . How can I manage inventory for products that were pre-ordered? If you enabled pre-order for a product, customers can buy that product even when it's out of stock. When they do so, your inventory (if you're tracking specific amounts) goes into negative numbers. This negative number indicates how many pre-orders you have for the product. When you get new stock and update the stock levels, you need to take into consideration the products that were pre-ordered. For example, if you have 12 pre-orders, your stock level is -12. If you get 50 units in, you need to updated your stock level to 38 (50 -12 = 38), rather than updating it to 50. Clients with Overdue Payments Keep track of clients and accounts with outstanding payments as well as the amount that is overdue. FAQs Click a question below to learn more about your Wix Analytics accounting reports. Why is the data different in my Wix Payments dashboard and Analytics reports? The Wix Payments dashboard includes all payment transactions, including unpaid and declined transactions, while Analytics reports only show successful payments. This difference in displayed data may cause discrepancies between the two. Why does the tax column show 0 in my reports? Some Wix business apps (e.g. Wix Bookings) don’t have an option to set up taxes, so no tax is calculated or shown in your report. In other Wix business apps where the option to set up taxes does exist, you may not have set it up, in which case the tax will also display 0 in the report. Why are customers who paid are shown as unpaid in the 'Clients with Overdue Payments' report? Note: This is applicable if you use Wix Bookings and Wix Invoices. If a customer checks out with an 'in-person' payment method and then pays later through Wix Invoices (using an invoice that you send to the customer), you need to manually mark their session as 'Paid' in your Bookings calendar . If you don’t mark the session as 'Paid', it will later appear as 'Unpaid' in the report. This article is credited to the Wix team - https://support.wix.com/ and we thank them for that! - CMS: Creating Unique Dynamic Page URLs | Wix Expert
< Back Advanced features CMS CMS: Creating Unique Dynamic Page URLs The URL slug structure of your dynamic pages determines both the type of dynamic page (list or item) and the actual URL slugs used by each version of a dynamic item page. A URL slug represents the exact web address of a specific page on your website. It's the part of the URL that follows your main domain name and helps humans and search engines know what the content is about. You may need to add variables to your dynamic item page's URL slug structure to ensure each collection item gets its own unique web address. These variables act as placeholders that are replaced by the actual field values of your collection items. About URL slugs and URL slug structures URL slugs are the characters in the URL (web address) that appear after your domain name. They help humans and search engines understand what the page's content is about. URL slug structures determine how the actual URL slugs are constructed and what 'type' of dynamic page is used (list or item). For example, in the URL: www.your-domain.com/felines/large/bengal The URL slug is: felines/large/bengal The editable URL slug structure is: felines/{text-field}/{primary-field} In the SEO tab of your page settings, you can edit the following default URL slug structures: Dynamic list pages: https://www.{your-domain.com}/{collection-name} Dynamic item pages: https://www.{your-domain.com}/{collection-name}/{primary-field} Note: Dynamic category pages and dynamic category list pages use these same URL structures. Category pages follow the dynamic item page structure, and category list pages follow the dynamic list page structure. In your collection's view, a Flag icon appears next to your 'Primary' field. Your 'Page Link' fields have the same name as your collection, with "(List)" or "(Item)" added to the end of the name. This helps you understand which dynamic pages the URLs represent. Note: Fields used in your URL slug are no longer marked with a 'SLUG' label. This is because you can now edit each item's URL slug individually. Click the relevant item's 'Page Link' field to edit its URL slug. URL slug structures define dynamic page URLs Whenever you create a dynamic page, its 'Page Link' field is added to your collection. The 'Page Link' field generates the URLs for each item by combining the characters and variables used in the dynamic page's URL slug structure. By default, dynamic item pages add the collection's 'Primary' field to the URL slug structure. Fields used in the URL slugs are converted to lowercase letters with dashes replacing any spaces. When you add a variable to the slug structure, you choose a collection field that the variable represents. Any variables that exist in the slug structure are replaced by the actual field values for each item. This allows you to use field values from collection items in their dynamic page URLs. From your collection, you can also modify the URL slug used by a specific item's dynamic item page version. This gives you more control over the exact URLs of your items. If your site is connected to a domain, when you modify the URL slug for a specific item, the old URL automatically redirects to the new one. This ensures that when visitors and search engines go to the old links, they're taken to the new links. If you do not have a connected domain, the old URLs will no longer work and a 404 error page loads instead. In the example below: A variable representing a field was added to the URL slug structure of the dynamic item page used to display a single item. As a result, the values in this "Category" field ('Text' field type) are added to each item's 'Page Link' field to create the URL slugs for each version of the dynamic item page. Note: The "Category" field shown in this example is a text field used in the URL slug structure. This is different from the 'Category' field type used with category collections . When you use category collections, the URL slug structures for your dynamic category pages are created automatically — you do not need to manually add category variables to URL slugs. Using variables to change the dynamic page type Want to create pages that organize items by category? The recommended way to display items by category is to use category collections with the built-in 'Category' field type. This gives you purpose-built dynamic category pages with automatic URL generation — no manual URL slug manipulation required. Learn how to set up category collections and create dynamic category pages . Each 'Page Link' field in your collection represents a specific dynamic page and each value in the field represents an item's URL slug. When you add variables to change a dynamic page's URL slug structure, the 'Page Link' field values adjust accordingly. If multiple collection items have the same value in this 'Page Link' field, the CMS determines that these items should share the same dynamic item page. So, if this was a dynamic list page, the page converts to a dynamic item page. This dynamic item page will have a different version for each unique Page Link value (URL slug). Each version will list the items that share the same URL slug if the page has a repeater , gallery , or table connected to the dynamic page dataset. In the example below: A variable representing a field used for categorization was added to the URL slug structure of a dynamic list page. This converted the dynamic list page to a dynamic item page because the 'Page Link' field value is no longer unique to each item. In the example below: The 'Page Link' field now has two unique URL slugs. So, its dynamic item page can now list "categories" of items and has two versions: One version at /felines/large listing the two items that share this URL slug One version at /felines/medium listing the three items that share this URL slug. Next steps: Recommended: Create dynamic category pages using category collections . This option generates URLs automatically. Manual alternative: Create dynamic pages that list items by category using text or number fields . This option requires manual URL slug setup. Why you should add variables to dynamic page URLs For a dynamic item page to have a dedicated version for each collection item, the page's 'Page Link' field needs a unique URL slug. Otherwise, the page cannot exist for each item. You may need to add variables to the URL slug structure, to ensure each item has a unique URL slug. If multiple items in your collection have the same value in their 'Primary' field, and you do not add a variable to the dynamic item page's URL slug structure, only 1 URL is generated for multiple items. This is because the 'Primary' field is used in the dynamic item page's URL slug structure by default. Since only 1 URL is created for both items, only 1 item will have a dedicated version of the dynamic item page, the other will not. Example: If your dynamic item page URL slug structure ends with /team/{primary-field} , and 2 items in the collection have "Sara" in the 'Primary' field, only 1 URL is generated for /team/sara . So only 1 version of the dynamic item page is created for only 1 of the 2 collection items. To solve this, you could add a variable field to the URL slug structure to create unique URL slugs for each item. For example, add a "phone" field if each item has a different value in a "phone" field. The URL would then be /team/sara/{phone} so each item gets its own unique dynamic item page URL. You can also modify the 'Page Link' field for one of the "Sara" items so that each has a unique URL ending. In this case, unique URLs are generated from both items and they both get their own unique versions of the dynamic item page. URL slug structures cannot conflict with existing slug structures The URL slug structure cannot already be used by other existing pages on your site. To be unique, the URL slug structure cannot have the same prefix (e.g. {Collection name}) and the same number of variables as another page on your site, even if the variables are different. The CMS will not allow you to save changes to the URL slug structure if it conflicts with an existing one. So, when updating the URL slug structures of your dynamic pages, make sure they do not have the same number of variables after the same prefix. Show me an example of conflicting URL slug structures that cannot be used In the example image below, the URL slug structures conflict with each other because they share the same prefix and have the same number of variables (1 total variable): felines/{origin} felines/{text-field} Even though technically, the web addresses generated could be unique for each page, the total number of variables after the shared prefix causes the slug structures to conflict. When editing the URL slug structure, make sure it does not have the same prefix and number of variables as another slug structure used on your site. Adding variables to dynamic page URL slug structures Go to the SEO tab of the relevant dynamic page in your editor to check the URL slug structure. You can then manually edit the structure and add variable fields that change based on each collection item's actual field value. Important: If you want the old URLs to automatically redirect to the new ones you create by adding variables, make sure your site first has a connected domain . If your site does not have a domain connected, the old URLs will no longer work and instead, will load 404 error pages. Wix Editor Go to your editor . Click Pages & Menu on the left side of the editor. Click Dynamic Pages . Hover over the relevant dynamic page and click the More Actions icon on the right. Click SEO . Edit the URL slug structure field: Click Edit next to the URL slug structure field and choose what you want to do: Add Variable: Click + Add Variable and choose a 'Text' or 'Number' field to use its values in the URL slug structure. Add or edit static values: Click the field and enter the static values you want to use in the URL slug structure or edit the existing values. Use only letters, numbers or dashes. Tip: You can add non-Latin characters to the URL slug. Click Save . Click Replace URLs to confirm the changes. The dynamic page's previous URLs will be deleted and will no longer work. Instead, the new URLs will be generated for the dynamic page. Studio Editor Go to your editor . Click Pages on the left side of the editor. Instead, the new URLs will be generated for the dynamic page. Editing URL slugs for specific dynamic item pages From your collection, you can customize the end of the URL used by specific dynamic item pages. If your site has a domain connected to it, when you change the URL slug, the old URL will automatically redirect to the new URL. If you haven't connected a domain to your site, the old URL will no longer work after you change it and a 404 page will load instead. Important: Make sure you've connected a domain to your site before updating URL slugs for specific items. This ensures the old URLs will redirect to the new ones. Pages with variants (Wix Studio): You cannot remove the dynamic variable from a page's URL slug while it has page variants . Remove all variants first, then edit the URL structure. To edit an item's URL slug: Go to CMS in your site's dashboard. Alternatively, you can click CMS in your editor , then click Your Collections . Click the relevant collection. Click the relevant 'Page Link' field for the relevant item. Note: By default, the 'Page Link' field is titled: {Collection name} (Item) Click the relevant URL Slug field and edit the URL. Use only letters, numbers or dashes. Tip: You can add non-Latin characters to the URL slug. Click Save . FAQs Click a question below to learn more about creating unique dynamic page URLs. What are dynamic URLs? Dynamic URLs are webpage addresses that change based on the page's connected collection items and the fields used in the URL slug structure. Each item in your collection needs a unique dynamic item page URL for its version of the dynamic item page to exist. This is why you may need to add fields to the URL slug structure to give each item in your collection its own unique URL. Where do I see the dynamic page URLs in my collections? Check your dynamic page's corresponding 'Page Link' field in your collection to see the dynamic page URLs for each item. Whenever you create a dynamic page, its 'Page Link' field is added to your collection. The 'Page Link' field generates the URLs for each item by combining the characters and variables used in the dynamic page's URL slug structure. When you add a variable to the slug structure, you choose a collection field that the variable represents. Any variables that exist in the slug structure are replaced by the actual field values for each item. Fields used in the URL slugs are converted to lowercase letters with dashes replacing any spaces. This allows you to use field values from collection items in their dynamic page URLs. In your collection's Table layout, the fields are added at the far right of the collection, by default. In your collection's 'List' or 'Gallery' layouts, click the relevant item to see the URL fields added at the bottom. Click Preview or Open Preview on the field to preview the dynamic pages. Learn more about managing your collection fields . Which fields can I use for URL slug variables? You can use fields that meet the following criteria: The field type must be either a 'Text' or 'Number' field. The fields must be sortable (as defined by the API). The fields must have the "urlized" flag to be used in the URL slug structure. Currently, there isn't a straightforward method for checking if a field has the "urlized" flag. It is typically checked in developer tools or through specific API queries. To get a full list of properties and available filters, check the API's query method in SDK, for example queryComments() , or the supported filters and sorting article in REST . Learn more about: The sort array in our SDK documentation . Sorting and paging in our REST documentation . Do I need to configure URL slugs for dynamic category pages? If you use category collections with the built-in 'Category' field type, the URL slug structures for your dynamic category pages are created automatically. You do not need to manually add variables or edit the URL structure. By default, category item pages and category list pages use the same URL slug structures as dynamic item pages and dynamic list pages. Category page: https://www.{your-domain.com}/{collection-name}/{primary-field} Category list page: https://www.{your-domain.com}/{collection-name} You can still customize these URL slugs after the pages are created. Learn more about creating dynamic category pages . Can I use non-Latin characters in the URL slug fields? Yes, you can now use non-Latin characters in the URL slug fields. The non-Latin characters you enter in the URL slug fields will display exactly the same in the browser address bar. Can I add variables to SEO meta tags? Yes. Go to your SEO dashboard to add variables to your dynamic page meta tags. The variables get replaced with the actual values from your collection so you can show relevant info about each dynamic page's content. Learn more about editing your dynamic page SEO settings .
