  • CMS: Selling Items from Catalog Collections | Wix Expert

< Back Advanced features CMS CMS: Selling Items from Catalog Collections Turn your CMS (Content Management System) collection into a sellable catalog and manage content and commerce in one place. Catalog collections are a good fit when your items already live in the CMS, or when you want to sell content-driven items like guides, rentals, digital downloads, art, or courses without building a traditional product catalog first. With catalog collections, you manage your items in a collection and use Wix commerce features like cart, checkout, payments, discounts, and order management. If you sell physical items, you can also set up shipping and tax collection. Before you begin: You need to add CMS to your site if you haven't already. Upgrade your site to a plan that supports selling online when you're ready to sell your items. You need to set up at least one payment method before customers can complete checkout. Catalog collections are best for content-first selling. If you need product variants, advanced inventory tools, or more complex store setups, Wix Stores may be a better fit. Choose how you want to create a catalog collection You can start with an existing collection or create a new catalog collection. Choose the path that matches where your content already lives. Setting up your selling experience After your catalog collection is ready, you need pages where customers can browse items and purchase them. In most cases, that means adding dynamic pages and connecting purchase actions to buttons. After your catalog collection is ready, you need pages where customers can browse and buy your items. In most cases you add a dynamic page for your catalog, then customize it to fit your site. Before you begin: Make sure to create your catalog collection before adding dynamic pages for it. Adding dynamic pages for your catalog Catalog collections use dynamic item pages and dynamic list pages to display collection content on your site. The item page shows one item at a time, and the list page shows multiple items together. Add a dynamic page to show your catalog items on your site. Choose a Catalog Item Page to show one item at a time, or a Catalog List Page to show several items together. You don't need to connect these pages yourself. The elements arrive connected to your catalog fields — item name, price, image and description — and the Add to cart and Buy now buttons are connected to their purchase actions . You can change any connection later, or start with a blank page and connect the elements yourself. Studio Editor Go to your editor . Click CMS on the left side of the editor. Click Your Collections . Hover over the relevant catalog collection, click the More Actions icon , and select Add dynamic page . Select the type of dynamic page you want to add: Catalog List Page: Shows multiple items in elements within a repeater. Catalog Item Page: Shows one item at a time in connected elements like text, buttons and images. Blank Page: Shows one item at a time once you manually add and connect the elements to your collection. Manage item page: Shows one item at a time where people with permissions can edit the content from your live site. Click Add to Site . (If needed) Click any of the elements to edit them. Click the CMS icon to choose which collection fields connect to each element . (If needed) Repeat these steps to add another dynamic page type. Publish your site when you're ready for the changes to go live. Wix Editor Go to your editor . Click CMS on the left side of the editor. Click Your Collections . Publish your site when you're ready for the changes to go live. Adding purchase actions to a dynamic page If you added a Catalog Item Page or Catalog List Page , you already have purchase buttons on it. Use the steps below to add another button, or to add purchase actions to a blank page or to a dynamic page you created before you started selling. A purchase action button is a regular button or image connected to a dataset. Each one has a click action — Add to cart or Buy now — that decides what happens when a customer clicks it. On a list page, you can put a purchase button inside a repeater so customers can add items without opening each item page. Studio Editor Go to your editor and navigate to the relevant dynamic page. Add a regular button or image to use as your purchase action button. Click the button or image, then click the Connect to CMS icon . Make sure the dataset connects to your catalog collection. Click the Click action connects to dropdown and select the action you want to assign to the button: Add to cart: When clicked, a side panel opens where the customer can add the item to their cart. Buy now: When clicked, the customer navigates to the checkout page where they can purchase the item. Click Change Text on the button to customize the static text that displays on the button (e.g. "Add to cart" or "Buy now"). Alternatively, you can display dynamic text from your collection by selecting the relevant field from the Label connects to dropdown in the Connect Button panel. Repeat these steps to add another 'Add to cart' or 'Buy now' button to the page. (Recommended) Add a 'Cart icon' button if you don't already have one: Click Add Elements on the left, then click Store . Click Cart Icon , then click and drag the Cart Icon into place. Publish your site when you're ready for the changes to go live. Wix Editor Go to your editor and navigate to the relevant dynamic page. Add a regular button or image to use as your purchase action button. Click the button or image, then click the Connect to CMS icon . Make sure the dataset connects to your catalog collection. Publish your site when you're ready for the changes to go live. Displaying catalog items on static pages You can also display catalog collection items on static pages, such as your homepage or landing pages. This lets you feature selected items outside the collection's dynamic pages. Studio Editor Go to your editor and navigate to a static page. Click the element you want to connect to the CMS (e.g. text, image, button). Click the Connect to CMS icon . Click the Choose a dataset dropdown and select a dataset connected to your catalog collection. If none exists yet, click Add a Dataset , choose your catalog collection, give it a name, and click Create . Connect each element to the relevant collection field — for example, connect an image element to your image field, and a text element to your title or description field. (For buttons or images) Select the relevant click action after connecting: Add to cart: Lets visitors add the item to their cart directly from the page. Buy now: Takes visitors straight to checkout. Publish your site when you're ready for the changes to go live. Wix Editor Go to your editor and navigate to a static page. This includes payments, and for physical items, shipping and tax settings. Important: You need at least one payment method before customers can check out. Learn how to: Set up payments for your site . Set up shipping, delivery, and pickup methods . Set up your tax collections . Offer discounts to your customers . Managing your orders Orders from catalog collections are managed from your site's dashboard. This is where you can review purchases and handle fulfillment steps. Learn more about managing your orders . FAQs Click for answers to common questions about selling items from CMS catalog collections. How is this different from Wix Stores? Catalog collections are a good fit when your CMS collection is the main source of truth for the items you sell. Wix Stores is usually a better fit if you need store-first features like product variants, more advanced merchandising, or more complex inventory workflows. Can I sell digital files from catalog collections? Yes. If your collection includes a 'Digital asset' field and that field is mapped as the digital file for sale, customers can receive a secured file after purchase. Can I use automations with catalog collections? Catalog collections work with Wix commerce automations for actions like purchases and abandoned carts. What happens to my existing dynamic pages if I enable selling? Your existing dynamic pages stay in place. If you want visitors to purchase from those pages, add buttons and connect them to the relevant purchase actions . Can I import a CSV file to create a catalog collection? You cannot currently import a CSV file to create a new catalog collection. As a workaround, you can import your CSV file into a regular collection first, then convert that collection into a catalog collection. This is useful if you want to bulk-add items before setting up selling. After you have a catalog collection, you can import a CSV file directly into that existing collection. How do customers receive digital files? Customers receive the file through the digital delivery flow after purchase. Can I format prices with currency symbols? Yes. Use the PRICE expression function to display 'Number' field values with your site's currency symbol and formatting. Connect a text element to your catalog collection using a dataset, select Expression as the connection type, and enter PRICE(price) — replacing "price" with the relevant number field from your collection. Learn more about using the PRICE function . What happens if I duplicate a collection field that is mapped to a catalog field? When you duplicate a field that is mapped to a catalog field, only the original field remains mapped to the catalog field. • Wix Stores: Fulfilling Subscriptions | Wix Expert

< Back Managing your business Business solutions & apps Wix Stores: Fulfilling Subscriptions After a customer purchases a subscription, an order appears in the Orders tab, just as it does for one-time purchases. Then, every cycle (every week, month, or year) the customer is automatically charged. When payment is received, a new order appears in the Orders tab. Show me how to access the Orders tab. Go to your site's dashboard . Click Sales . Select the Orders tab. You can perform all the actions on a subscription order (fulfill the order, add a tracking number, cancel it, etc.) just as you would a one-time order. Information about the subscription appears on the order page. Click View Subscription in the order to manage the subscription, (e.g. update the address). Learn more about managing a product subscription . FAQs How can I change payment providers if customers have already purchased plans? If you choose to switch payment providers, you must first cancel all active subscriptions, switch providers, and then ask your clients to repurchase the same product subscription. What happens if I make changes to the details of a subscription? If you make changes to a plan which customers already purchased, the changes only affect new purchases. So if a customer purchases a subscription and it is set to auto-renew indefinitely, it isn't possible to change the price, tax, or shipping rate for that customer. What happens when customers check out with 2 or more subscriptions? If a customer checks out with 2 or more subscriptions at the same time, 1 order is created for the first billing cycle. What happens after that depends on the subscription details. 2 or more subscriptions with the same frequency and duration When a customer buys subscriptions with the same frequency and duration, 1 order is created for each billing cycle until the subscriptions end. For example, a customer buys a monthly subscription for coffee beans that lasts 1 year. They also buy a monthly subscription for tea that lasts 1 year. Each month, 1 order is created for both the coffee beans and the tea. Tip: In the Subscriptions tab, this appears as a multi-item subscription. 2 or more subscriptions with different frequencies or durations If the frequency is different (e.g. one subscription is monthly and another is weekly, or if the duration is different (e.g. one last a year and the other lasts 6 months), one order is created for both items for the first cycle. After that, each subscription has it's own order. If the subscriptions have different frequencies, for example, 1 is monthly and another is weekly, or different durations, for example, 1 lasts a year and another lasts 6 months, 1 order is created for both items for the first billing cycle. After that, each subscription has its own order. For example, a customer buys a monthly coffee subscription and a weekly tea subscription together in January. The January order includes both the coffee and the tea. After that, separate orders are created based on each subscription schedule. Tip: In the Subscriptions tab, this appears as 2 separate subscriptions. How are shipping costs calculated if my customer purchases a subscription along with other, non-subscription items? If your customer's order contains a subscription as well as other items, the shipping fee applied to that order is applied for every future subscription cycle, even if the shipping cost is greater than it would be to ship the subscription item alone. Tip: In some cases, you may want to ask your customer if they prefer to cancel and redo the subscription to reduce the shipping fee. What happens if the product is out of stock when it's time for the next cycle of a customer's subscription? If the product is out of stock when the next subscription cycle occurs, the order is still created. In other words, if a subscription customer has an order is created at the 1st of every month, an order is still created on June 1st even if your inventory status that day is zero. Note: The order pushes your stock into negative numbers. This article is credited to the Wix team - https://support.wix.com/ and we thank them for that! Previous Next Need An AI Run Website?
