- Maintaining Your Site's Google Rankings with URL Redirects when Moving to Wix | Wix Expert
< Back Promoting your site SEO (get found on Google) Maintaining Your Site's Google Rankings with URL Redirects when Moving to Wix To set up URL Redirects: You must upgrade your Wix site with a Premium Plan and connect a domain . URL Redirects allow you to maintain your previous site's Google search ranking data when moving your site to Wix. URL Redirects also send people to your new Wix site when they click on old links in search results. Even if Google hasn't checked in on your site in months, result links will bring visitors to your new site rather than showing them a 404 broken page error. Important: It is not possible to use a Source Link with a # in the URL or to redirect to a blog page or list item. URL redirects for moving to Wix with the same domain When building your new site with Wix, create new pages with URLs that match the ones from your old site. If you have new pages, and cannot match the new URLs to the old ones, you can retain your SEO rankings by creating a URL redirect . Once you have published your new Wix site, make sure to verify your site with Google Search Console or other search engines. You can then submit your sitemap directly to Google. Important: To connect to Google Search Console, you must have a Premium plan and a domain connected to your site. This can be either a domain purchased from Wix or a domain purchased from another domain host . URL redirects for moving to Wix with a new domain Add your old domain to your Wix account and connect it as a secondary domain to your new domain. This will set up a URL redirect from the old domain to the new domain. Getting the most out of your URL redirects Click below for tips on how to effectively create your URL redirects: Analyze your previous site's SEO It's important to review your previous site, in terms of SEO, so similar content can be used when creating your new site. This includes reviewing your previous site's text, images, meta tags, header tags, and menu structure. Take note of the search phrases that are being used to target each of your pages. Map out what content is located on each page. If you have a site with many pages, decide which pages you will be redirecting and which are not necessary. Build your new site with Wix Using the information that you gathered in the previous step, start to build your site. Make sure that your new site has a corresponding page for each of the important pages of your previous site. Your new site does not need to be a duplicate of your previous site, but it is important for the content, on each corresponding page, to be similar. For example, if your previous site's 'About' page contained information on what your business does, your new site's 'About' page should contain the same information. At the end of this step, you should have a draft version of your new site prepared. In order to avoid exposing your site to search engines before setting up your redirects, we recommend disabling Let search engines index your site from your site's SEO settings. Learn How Set up your URL redirects In order to set up your URL redirects correctly, it's helpful to determine which of your previous site pages have already been indexed by Google. To do so, perform the following search in Google - site:yourdomain.com. From the search results, note down the URL of each page that appears. You can also access all of your previous site's URLs by looking at the site map. Consult your previous site builder on how to access your sitemap. Set up your URL redirects so that each relevant URL corresponds to a page on your new site. Publish your site You are now ready to publish your site! Go ahead and click Publish from inside the Editor for the URL redirects to be activated. Make sure that you have selected Let search engines index your site from your site's SEO settings. Learn How Review the redirects that you've set up and make changes if necessary. Submit your sitemap to Google Google periodically caches your site, but this can take up to 3 months. To speed up this process, we recommend opening a Google Search Console account and submitting your automatically generated sitemap to Google. Want to learn more about 301 redirects? - CMS: Troubleshooting User Input Element Issues | Wix Expert
< Back Advanced features CMS CMS: Troubleshooting User Input Element Issues The CMS (Content Management System) allows you to create and manage dynamic content on your site. This is particularly useful for site owners who want to collect user input, such as customer feedback, registration forms, or other types of data. For example, you might have a contact form where customers can leave their details and questions. However, sometimes you may encounter issues with user input elements. This guide will help you troubleshoot and resolve these common problems. Step 1 | Check the connections of your page elements Ensure that your input elements are correctly connected to your dataset. If elements are not connected properly, data will not be stored in your collection. Show me how In your editor, go to the page where your input elements are located. Click the relevant input element (e.g. text input, dropdown). Click the Connect to CMS icon . Check that the element connects to the correct dataset that submits to the correct collection. Check that the element connects to the collection field it should submit to. Learn how to check the dataset connections between your input elements and your collection. Step 2 | Check for validation error messages Validation errors can prevent data from being submitted correctly. These errors occur when the input does not meet the criteria set for the field. If you see any validation errors, adjust the input criteria in the properties panel to ensure they match the expected data format. Show me how On your live site, go to the page with the input elements. Enter data into the form and try to submit it. Look for any error messages that appear. Learn more about working with user input validation settings . Step 3 | Check your dataset mode Your dataset mode determines how data is handled when users interact with your input elements. Click Dataset Settings . Check that the Dataset mode is set to the correct mode: Write or Read & Write (If necessary) Click the Dataset mode drop-down and select the relevant mode: Read: Page elements on your live site can read and display content from your collection. Learn more about syncing content between the sandbox and live collections . FAQs Click below for more answers to common troubleshooting questions about input elements. How do I troubleshoot form submissions not saving to the CMS collection? To troubleshoot issues with custom CMS form submissions not saving to the collection, follow these key steps: Check the dataset connection : Ensure that the dataset is connected to the correct CMS collection (e.g., the "Submissions" collection). Verify that the dataset mode is set to 'Write', enabling the data inputs to save as new items. Tip: If the form is meant to update existing items, use 'Read & Write' mode and choose 'Advanced' collection permissions . Review collection permissions : Check the permissions of the collection in the CMS. Verify that the correct user roles are allowed to add content using the 'Collect content' or 'Advanced' permissions. Validate input element connections : Click the Connect to CMS icon on each input element and confirm it's properly connected to relevant fields in the dataset. Ensure field types match the type of data you want to collect . Check the 'Submit' button click action : Ensure the 'Submit' button is correctly connected to the dataset's 'Submit' action . Preview and test : In the editor, preview the form and submit a test entry to confirm that data is saving to the collection. Debug any issues you encounter during this test phase. Learn more about creating a form with input elements that submit to your collection. Can I use the text input element as a filter or search bar? Not without using coding. The text input element allows users to submit responses that get saved to your CMS collection. It's not set up to be used as a search bar or filter by default. If this is a feature you would like to see in the future, you can vote for it here . Workarounds: You can use coding to allow visitors to enter keywords in the text input element and search for dynamic content that appears on the page. View a tutorial on using the text input element to search your collection content . You can add the Wix Site Search app to allow visitors to search throughout all of your site's content. Why is my text input field grayed out when visitors try to enter text in it? The input field may appear grayed out for multiple reasons. To troubleshoot, check the following: Dataset mode: Make sure that the dataset mode is set to 'Write' or 'Read & Write'. Collection permissions: Make sure that the collection permissions are set correctly to allow the relevant user types to add or update content in the collection. Text input element settings: Make sure that the element is set to collect the type of info you need it to (e.g. text, number, email). Also make sure it's connected to the relevant field type (e.g. text, number, URL). Click Settings on the element to set the type of content it can accept. Click the Connect to CMS icon to change the field that the input's value connects to. How do I use a dropdown input element to filter CMS content dynamically? To dynamically filter CMS content using a dropdown input element, add the element to the page with your connected repeater, gallery, or table. Connect it to the CMS and choose Filter content . Make sure to connect it to the same dataset and choose a collection field to filter by (e.g., "Category"). The dropdown will display unique field values, allowing visitors to filter content immediately after selection or only after clicking an optional "apply filters" button, depending on your setup. You can also customize filters with advanced conditions like "Is not" to exclude specific items. Learn more about using input elements to filter dynamic content . Why aren't my filter options in the order I set in the dataset? Input elements set to filter content always display their options in alphabetical order (A-Z). Sorts you add to the dataset control the order of items in your repeater, gallery, or table, but they do not change the order of the filter options. Input elements set to collect content work differently — there, the dataset's sort does control the order of a dynamic list of options. Learn more about sorting the options in filter input elements . Can I automate what happens when I receive form submissions? Yes. With Wix Automations, you can choose from a variety of actions that occur when you receive new submissions. For example, you can receive an email, connect to third-party apps like Google Sheets, or automatically reply to the visitor. Since your form submissions are saved as new items in your collection, use the Item added trigger to start your automation. Learn more about creating automations for collection items . How can I troubleshoot if my upload button is not working? If your upload button isn't functioning as expected, start by checking the connections of your input elements to ensure they are linked correctly to the appropriate dataset. Verify that the dataset mode is set to either 'Write' or 'Read & Write' to allow data submissions. Additionally, confirm that the collection permissions are set to allow the necessary user roles to add content. Learn more about working with dataset modes and collection permissions . It's also essential to check for any validation errors that might be preventing the submission. If everything seems correct but the issue persists, consider syncing your sandbox and live collections if applicable. How do I connect multiple forms to a single CMS collection? You can connect multiple forms to the same CMS collection by connecting their input elements to datasets that all submit to the same CMS collection. Ensure that each form has a unique 'Submit' button and dataset to prevent conflicts. This setup allows you to gather data from various sources while maintaining a single collection for easy management. Learn more about creating custom CMS forms with input elements . You should see Connected in the top right corner. If you're not sure how connect it, you can follow the steps in this article . Note: There is no need to embed the Meta Pixel code directly into your site. Doing so using the HTML element will not allow the Meta Pixel to work correctly. Check that you don't have an ad blocker on your browser An ad blocker may prevent your Meta Pixel from functioning correctly. Follow the instructions below to disable ad blocking on Wix if you're using AdBlock or Ad-Blocker. Otherwise, follow your ad blocker's instructions to turn it off or pause it temporarily. AdBlock Click the AdBlock button in your browser. Click Don't run on pages on this site (Chrome) or Don't run on pages on this domain (other browsers). Click Exclude . Refresh the page to see your ad preview. Ad-Blocker Click the Ad-Blocker button in your browser. Click Enabled on this site to disable the option. Refresh the page to see your ad preview. Check that the Meta Pixel ID was added to your PRIMARY domain If you have more than one domain connected to your site, the Meta Pixel ID must be added to your primary domain. You can check that it was added to the right domain on the Tracking & Analytics tab in your site's dashboard. Go to Custom Code in your site's dashboard. Click the Show More icon next to Meta Pixel and select Edit . Check that the correct domain is selected under Select Domain . If not, click the drop-down, select the correct domain and click Apply . Check that you haven't added your Meta Pixel ID in more than one place It's possible that you may have added your Meta Pixel ID to the Google Tag Manager in addition to connecting it in Marketing Integrations . If you did, remove the pixel ID from either one of these locations to make it work correctly. Note: If you're using Facebook Ads with Wix, they may have added a second pixel to your site for you. This does not interfere with your other Meta Pixel. Check that you haven't added your Meta Pixel in both Custom Code and Marketing Integrations If you added your Meta Pixel manually in Custom Code and also connected it through Marketing Integrations , this can cause tracking conflicts and duplicate events. You should only connect your Meta Pixel through Marketing Integrations. If you previously pasted the pixel code manually, delete it from Custom Code before connecting it, or keep only the Marketing Integrations connection active. Note: Manual code added through Custom Code is not supported by Wix Customer Care and may interfere with the Conversions API. Check whether a cookie banner is preventing your Meta Pixel from loading If your site has a cookie consent banner , your Meta Pixel will not load until a visitor gives consent to marketing cookies. To test accurately, open your site in an incognito window, accept all cookies, and then check your Meta Pixel again. If you're using Usercentrics, check whether the Enable placeholders toggle is enabled under your banner's advanced settings, as this can block the Meta Pixel until consent is given.
