  • Wix Portfolio: How to Write Good Alt Text | Wix Expert

< Back Managing your business Business solutions & apps Wix Portfolio: How to Write Good Alt Text Alt text describes the image on a page and displays in place of an image if it fails to load. It can be read aloud by screen readers used by those who are visually impaired. It is also indexed by search engine bots to better understand the content of your page. Writing SEO-friendly alt text for your images is one of the most important steps you can take with your portfolio. Your images will stand a greater chance of appearing in image search results, which means more traffic to your site and a higher SEO boost. You can add alt text to your images either manually or with the help of AI. Adding alt text to your images Add alt text manually or with the help of AI to each of your project's images for better accessibility and SEO ranking. To add alt text to your portfolio images: Go to Portfolio in your site's dashboard. Hover over the relevant project and click Edit . Click Add alt text to images under SEO & Social . Choose what you want to do: Write your own alt text: Enter your alt text for each image. Click Apply Alt Text . Generate alt text with AI: Click Generate missing alt text Click Apply Alt Text . How to write good alt text Adding a short description to your project's image can help improve SEO ranking and accessibility. Define your image and business goals Depending on whether you’re a photographer, an architect or a web designer, your image goals will be different. Let’s take a look at the image below, for example. Let’s say you’re a bridge engineer. In this case, the bridge is the central focus of your image and so it should be mentioned in your alt text. So, instead of writing a generic description like “An image of a bridge in the city” or including details about the "moody sky", you might write something like “A photograph of a modern, pedestrian bridge with a reinforced steel and glass shelter.” Add relevant keywords Keywords are the phrases that your potential clients will type into Google when looking for you or a business like yours. Keywords are linked tightly to your goals. If you want your images to show up as a result for certain keywords, it’s good practice to insert them into your alt text. If you are a photographer, for example, your keywords will likely include: the type of photography you specialize in (e.g. pet photography), your name (e.g. photo by John Doe), or a combination of the two (e.g. photo by animal photographer John Doe). A good tip is to put yourself in the searcher’s shoes and do some keyword research to find what it is that people search for when looking for images or services like yours. Describe your images accurately Explaining your images in the most accurate way possible will help search engines better understand what’s going on with them. It is also best practice to write commonly used words in your alt text. Anything too complex is less likely to be used by searchers. A great trick is to try and describe the image as if you were talking to a friend who cannot see it. This will help you write more precise alt text for your images. Keep your descriptions short Your alt text shouldn’t be endless. The recommendation is to write a maximum of 125 characters, otherwise your alt text may not be read completely by search engines. Stay away from long image descriptions like this one: “Belgian homemade waffles covered in blueberries and rainbow-colored sprinkles on pink plates with pretty napkins and a cup of tea with milk and a teapot all laid on hexagon white tiles.” This article is credited to the Wix team - https://support.wix.com/ and we thank them for that! FAQs Click a question below to learn more about branding your site. Why does the Brand panel look different or hard to read when I use high-contrast settings? Some editing features in the Wix Harmony Editor, including parts of the Brand panel, are not fully supported when your computer’s accessibility settings change page colors or contrast (for example, Windows contrast themes). In this state, color palettes and other controls in the editor can be hard to see, even though your actual brand settings do not change on your site. We recommend setting up or editing your brand when your system colors and contrast are set to their default values. After you finish designing, you can turn your high-contrast or color filter settings back on. Open your computer’s accessibility or display settings. Turn off any contrast themes or color filters. Refresh the Wix Harmony Editor and open the Brand panel again to edit your brand. Can I change my brand later? Yes, you can go back to Brand at any time and customize every part of it, even after you publish your site. If I make changes to parts of my brand, are they updated automatically on my site? Yes—any changes you make in the Brand panel are applied across the site. Let's say, for example, that you customize your brand's primary button. Any primary buttons you have added to the site are automatically updated to reflect those changes. What fonts should I use for my brand's text? We recommend choosing fonts that are easy to read, and align with your brand's aesthetic. Make sure to maintain consistency across different text styles (i.e., one font for headings, one font for paragraphs). Can I add more colors to my palette? Absolutely. You can save new colors from the brand panel to build the exact palette you want. How can I save more button, box, and style lines? If you customize a box, button, or line and like its look, you can save it as a new style. Simply select the element on the page, and use the action bar to add it to your brand . • Wix Bookings: Managing Your Resources and Rooms | Wix Expert

< Back Managing your business Business solutions & apps Wix Bookings: Managing Your Resources and Rooms Make sure your staff and clients have the resources they need for the best experience. You can assign resources, like rooms or equipment, to specific staff members or locations. For appointment-based services, resources also help prevent double-booking by ensuring the required room or equipment is available at the selected time. Show me an example of how to manage my availability using resources You own and operate a beauty parlor with two business locations in Uptown and Downtown. Each location has 3 rooms for services, such as spray tans and skin treatments. You also offer massages in each location, but have 3 massage tables at the Uptown location, and just 1 at the Downtown location. Start by creating the Room and Massage table resource for both locations. Then add the relevant number of rooms and tables for each location: Uptown: 3 rooms, 3 tables Downtown: 3 rooms, 1 table Finally, in Booking Services , assign the relevant resources in each location to the services in the relevant location. Make sure you assign the correct resources for each service at their respective locations. Creating a resource category Your staff may require specific resources in order to offer their services. This can include certain rooms, machinery or other materials. Important: Resources are for internal use by you and your staff only. They are not visible to your clients. The number of resources and items you can offer depends on your plan. Upgrade your site or upgrade your Studio plan if you need to create more resources. To create a resource category: Go to Resources in your site's dashboard. (First time only) Click Get Started . Click + Create Resource . Enter the Resource name . Enter how many of this resource type you have. (Optional) Assign a Location to this resource type if you offer services at more than one location. Click Create . Renaming or deleting a resource category As your business grows, you may need to rename or delete some of your existing resource types. You can update your resource types at any time from your site dashboard. Notes: When you delete a resource type, sessions already scheduled with the resource type remain on your Booking Calendar. Each of your resource types needs at least one resource. To rename a resource type: Go to Resources in your site's dashboard. Click the More Actions icon next to the relevant resource type.
