- CMS: Managing Your Collections from the CMS Dashboard | Wix Expert
< Back Advanced features CMS CMS: Managing Your Collections from the CMS Dashboard View and manage all of your collections on the CMS (Content Management System) page in your site's dashboard. Choose between two views: a table or a gallery. In the table, you see how many items each collection has, which site pages use it, its permissions, and when it was last updated. You can also sort and filter your collections, and choose which columns appear. In the gallery, you see each collection as a card. Choosing how to view your collections Switch between the table and the gallery, depending on what you need. Use the table to see the details of every collection at once. Use the gallery to see your collections as cards. To switch between the table and the gallery: Go to CMS in your site's dashboard. Click the relevant view icon at the top right, next to the search bar: Table : See your collections in rows, with columns for items, site pages, permissions, and last update. Gallery : See your collections as cards. In the gallery, each card shows the collection's name. Below the name, you see how many items the collection has. For Wix app collections , the card shows the app's name instead. Single item collections show a label instead of the item count. Learn more about single item collections . To manage a collection from the gallery, click the More Actions icon on its card. You get the same options as in the table. If you organize your collections into folders, your folders appear in their own section above your collections. Learn more about collection folders . Tip: Search and Filter work in both views. Sorting and Customize columns are available in the table view only. Sorting collections and customizing columns Sort your collections by any column to bring what you need to the top, for example, your most recently updated collections. You can also choose which columns appear in the table. To sort your collections or customize the table: Go to CMS in your site's dashboard. Choose what you want to do: Sort your collections: Click any column heading (e.g. Last updated ) to sort by that column. Click the heading again to reverse the sort order. Choose which columns appear: Click the Customize icon at the top right, next to the search bar. Select the checkbox next to each column you want to show: Items , Site pages , Permissions , Relations , or Last updated . (Optional) Click and drag the Reorder icon next to the relevant columns to reorder them. Tip: The Relations column is hidden by default. Select Relations in the Customize columns panel to show which collections use each other's data. Filtering your collections Filter the table to narrow down what you see when you have many collections. You can combine filters, for example, to show only collections with 'Advanced' permissions that are not used on your site. To filter your collections: Go to CMS in your site's dashboard. Click Filter at the top right. Select the relevant filters: Collection type: Show content collections, catalog collections, or collections from specific Wix apps. Permissions: Show collections by their permission preset: Show content , Collect content , or Advanced . Site pages: Show collections that are used or not used on your site's pages. Relations: Show collections that do or do not share data with other collections. Last update: Show collections updated in the last 7 days, 14 days, month, or a custom date range. (Optional) Remove filters by clicking the X on a filter tag above the table, or click Clear all to remove all filters. Tip: The table is filtered to show content collections and catalog collections by default — these are the collections you create. To see Wix app collections (e.g. Wix Stores, Wix Bookings), update the Collection type filter. Viewing site pages, permissions, and relations Use the table's columns to do more than view information — you can spot permission issues and jump straight to related collections. Review the columns below to understand what each one shows you: Site pages: Shows how many site pages connect to the collection directly through CMS datasets or dynamic pages. Click the number of pages label to view which site pages the items appear on. Permissions: Shows the collection's permission preset. A warning icon appears when a collection's permissions are misconfigured. Learn more about collection permissions . Relations: Shows how many other collections use this collection's data through reference fields . Hover over the number to see the referencing collections, then click Open to go to one. Managing a collection from the table You can take quick actions on any collection without opening it. Click the More Actions icon next to the relevant collection, then select an option: Open collection: View and edit the collection's items. Collection settings: Update the collection's name and settings. Permissions & privacy: Control who can view and manage the collection's content. Learn more about changing your collection permissions . Import items to collection: Import content from a CSV file . Export to CSV: Export the collection's content to a CSV file. Duplicate collection: Create a copy of the collection's fields and settings. Move to folder: Organize the collection into a folder . Delete collection: Remove the collection and all its data from your CMS . FAQs Click below to learn more about managing your collections from the CMS page. Why can't I see my Wix app collections? By default, you only see content collections and catalog collections — these are the collections you create yourself. Click Filter and select the relevant Wix app types (e.g. Bookings , StoreCatalog ) under Collection type to show your Wix app collections . What does the warning icon in the Permissions column mean? The warning icon means the collection's permissions are misconfigured, for example, a permission combination that could expose content you meant to keep private. Click the collection's More Actions icon and select Permissions & privacy to review and update the settings. Learn more about collection permissions . Do my collections change with the new layout? No. The table and the gallery only change how you see your collections on the CMS page. Your collections, their content, and their settings all stay exactly the same, and everything inside each collection works as you expect. What actions can I take from the More Actions dropdown? Click the More Actions dropdown at the top right of the CMS page to take actions that apply to the whole page, not just one collection. From there, you can select any of the following: Create folder: Create a collection folder to organize your collections into groups. Backups: Back up your collections or restore a previous backup. Advanced Settings: Enable or disable Wix app collections , sandbox , or data caching . Help center: Open the Wix Help Center to find CMS articles. Submit feedback: Share your feedback about the CMS with Wix. How are my collections sorted by default? Collections you create appear at the top of the CMS dashboard, sorted by the date they were last updated. The most recently updated collection appears first. Collections that come from Wix apps appear below your own collections in a separate group. This article is credited to the Wix team - https://support.wix.com/ and we thank them for that! - Studio Editor: Designing Across Breakpoints | Wix Expert
< Back Studio, Partners & Enterprise Wix Studio Studio Editor: Designing Across Breakpoints The Studio Editor lets you tailor sites per breakpoint, so they always look great. Breakpoints are screen size ranges, representing the possible screens and devices that visitors tend to use (e.g. tablet, mobile). The design you create on desktop trickles down to tablet and mobile. However, you can create overrides to make the design fit smaller screens. Click a breakpoint icon at the top to get started. Tip: You can set a default editing size (screen width) for each breakpoint on every page of your client's site. Go to our Wix Studio Academy to check out additional Wix Studio webinars, tutorials, and courses. Defining breakpoints The Studio Editor comes with 3 built-in breakpoints, which you can customize and re-define at any point: Desktop: 1001px and up Tablet: 751px - 1000px Mobile: 320px - 750px You can add up to 3 additional breakpoints to make your design even more precise to certain screen sizes. You define the breakpoints separately for every site page and every global section . This means that a global section and the page it's on can have completely different breakpoints. For example, the page below has 5 breakpoints defined: ... While the global header on that page has 3 breakpoints defined: Tip: The breakpoint a site visitor sees depends on their viewport width. For example, an iPad Pro user (i.e. 1024px width) would see the desktop breakpoint (1001px and up). This also varies with portrait or landscape mode, as each mode has a different screen width that may fall into different breakpoint ranges. Cascading design The Studio Editor uses a cascading concept when it comes to designing across breakpoints. Changes you make on larger breakpoints trickle down to smaller breakpoints, but changes on smaller breakpoints don't affect larger breakpoints. For example, a button that is designed to be purple on desktop is automatically purple on tablet and mobile. If you change its color on mobile, the button is still purple on tablet and desktop. Note: Some changes apply to all breakpoints – for example, when you replace or delete elements. Learn more about these changes in the section below. Created additional desktop breakpoints? If you delete the 2nd largest breakpoint, settings from the largest breakpoint automatically trickle down to the smaller ones – even if you have already created overrides . For example, elements that were only hidden from the largest breakpoint would become hidden on the smaller breakpoints as well. To resolve this, create the overrides again. Changes that apply to all breakpoints Some types of actions automatically apply to all breakpoints, and cannot be customized to a certain viewport. Data changes When editing the content of an element, you're effectively changing its data. For example, changing an element's link or the source of an image applies to all breakpoints. Another example is when you replace or delete elements from the page – the element is automatically replaced / deleted on all breakpoints. Did you know? You can hide elements from specific breakpoints. Go to the relevant breakpoint, right-click the element and select Hide . Structural changes Changes to an element's place in the hierarchy of your page. For example, when you stack elements together or move an element to a different cell , you're changing the page structure and it is reflected across all breakpoints. Creating overrides with breakpoints An override occurs when you make changes to an element's design on a specific breakpoint. Meaning, it no longer draws design values from the larger breakpoint above it. However, these overrides do trickle down to smaller breakpoints. There are 2 types of overrides you can create: Design: Changes to an element's properties, such as coloration, border and font. Layout: Changes to an element's position and size, as long as it does not move to a different parent element. Tip: Elements and sections in the Studio Editor come with a built-in responsive behavior . This controls the way they are resized on smaller breakpoints, so you don't have to worry about setting it all manually. Using overrides on all breakpoints If you like an override you've created, you can use it on all breakpoints. This applies the changes to both larger and smaller breakpoints - keeping the site's look consistent across every screen size. To use an override on all breakpoints: Open the relevant breakpoint in your editor . Select the relevant element. Click the More Actions icon . Select Use on All Breakpoints . Removing design overrides on a specific breakpoint You can always reset the design and layout of an element back to its properties on the largest breakpoint. The properties of the element on smaller breakpoints are not affected, just the breakpoint that contains the element that you are reverting back. For example, if you're removing overrides on tablet, it does not affect mobile. To remove design overrides on a breakpoint: Open the relevant breakpoint in your editor . Select the relevant element. Tip: You can select it directly on the canvas, or the Layers panel . Click the More Actions icon . Click Remove Overrides . Did you know? You can use the responsive AI tool to quickly optimize the layout of sections across all breakpoints. FAQs Click a question below to learn more. How do I ensure my site’s layout looks correct on both mobile and desktop? Always design with responsiveness in mind. Start with the desktop breakpoint, choosing the desired responsive behavior for every element and section. Then check the smaller breakpoints and adjust the elements' design and layout as needed. For sections, you can also use the Responsive AI tool to automatically generate a responsive layout. How do I prevent the mobile version of my site from affecting the desktop version? Firstly, it's important to keep in mind that layout and design overrides do not affect the desktop version. For example, you can resize elements on the mobile breakpoint and it won't change their size on desktop. Structural and data changes, like moving an element to a different parent or deleting it, automatically apply to all breakpoints. However, you can always create sections and elements that only appear on a specific breakpoint, hidden from other screen sizes . This can be helpful, for example, when you want to create a distinct look for mobile with a different arrangement of elements. Tip: When you make structural or data changes on lower breakpoints, you'll see a helpful notification. This allows you to confirm whether you'd like these changes to apply across all breakpoints, How do I fix overlapping elements on mobile? When arranging elements, they could be spaced just right in the editor but overlap when you check the live site on different viewports. Overlap usually happens due to the way elements are positioned or because of their responsive behavior. If elements on your client's site overlap on different screen sizes, check the elements' positioning, docking and responsive behavior in the Inspector panel. For example, if an the elements are set to 'Fixed', the solution may be selecting a responsive behavior that resizes each element on smaller screens. In addition, if the elements share the same parent but no relationship (e.g. stack) is defined between them, they will act independently and may overlap. Learn more about preventing overlap across breakpoints . How can I fix large gaps or unwanted white space, especially on mobile? We recommend the following: Check the padding and margin settings for sections, containers, and elements in the Inspector panel. Reduce unnecessary bottom docking values, which may cause excessive spacing. Ensure that related elements are stacked properly to avoid unintended gaps. Adjust the height of sections to 'Fit to Screen' or set it to a fixed pixel value. Tip: Check out this detailed troubleshooting tutorial for more information. Why is my gallery too large on mobile, and how can I fix it? If the gallery does not fit well on mobile, there are a few different ways to resolve the issue. You can choose a different layout for the mobile breakpoint, or stick with the same layout as desktop while tweaking settings in the Inspector panel. When you want the gallery to have the same layout across breakpoints, make sure its responsive behavior is set to either Relative width or Stretch – both of these behaviors ensure the gallery resizes automatically and in relation to each visitor's screen. Learn more about making the gallery responsive . Tip: It is not possible to adjust your gallery's height in the Inspector when: Your gallery is set to scroll vertically. Your gallery is horizontal with a fixed ratio. You can change these settings from the Layout tab in the gallery's Settings panel. What's the difference between private and public libraries? When creating a new library, you can choose whether to make it private or public: Public: Teammates can access and reuse the library's assets, on any site in the workspace. Private: Only you can access and use the assets in your library. Can teammates edit or share my library? If your library is private, they can't access it at all. However, if you turn on sharing and make the library public, it depends on the teammate's role. The entire team can view public design libraries, reuse the assets and duplicate them if needed. However, only teammates with the Manage Library permission can edit libraries and share them with others. What happens if I delete a library I previously shared? Deleting a public design library removes it for the entire team, including the team owner. However, if you already applied assets from this library, they stay on the relevant Studio Editor site(s). For example, if you imported colors from a library that was deleted, the site's color styles stay exactly the same.
