Wix Stores: Fulfilling Subscriptions

After a customer purchases a subscription, an order appears in the Orders tab, just as it does for one-time purchases. Then, every cycle (every week, month, or year) the customer is automatically charged. When payment is received, a new order appears in the Orders tab.

  1. Go to your site's dashboard.

  2. Click Sales.

  3. Select the Orders tab.

You can perform all the actions on a subscription order (fulfill the order, add a tracking number, cancel it, etc.) just as you would a one-time order.

Information about the subscription appears on the order page.

Click View Subscription in the order to manage the subscription, (e.g. update the address). Learn more about managing a product subscription.

FAQs

If you choose to switch payment providers, you must first cancel all active subscriptions, switch providers, and then ask your clients to repurchase the same product subscription.

If you make changes to a plan which customers already purchased, the changes only affect new purchases.

So if a customer purchases a subscription and it is set to auto-renew indefinitely, it isn't possible to change the price, tax, or shipping rate for that customer.

If a customer checks out with 2 or more subscriptions at the same time, 1 order is created for the first billing cycle. What happens after that depends on the subscription details.

2 or more subscriptions with the same frequency and duration

When a customer buys subscriptions with the same frequency and duration, 1 order is created for each billing cycle until the subscriptions end.

For example, a customer buys a monthly subscription for coffee beans that lasts 1 year. They also buy a monthly subscription for tea that lasts 1 year. Each month, 1 order is created for both the coffee beans and the tea.

Tip: In the Subscriptions tab, this appears as a multi-item subscription.

2 or more subscriptions with different frequencies or durations

If the frequency is different (e.g. one subscription is monthly and another is weekly, or if the duration is different (e.g. one last a year and the other lasts 6 months), one order is created for both items for the first cycle. After that, each subscription has it's own order.

If the subscriptions have different frequencies, for example, 1 is monthly and another is weekly, or different durations, for example, 1 lasts a year and another lasts 6 months, 1 order is created for both items for the first billing cycle. After that, each subscription has its own order.

For example, a customer buys a monthly coffee subscription and a weekly tea subscription together in January. The January order includes both the coffee and the tea. After that, separate orders are created based on each subscription schedule.

Tip: In the Subscriptions tab, this appears as 2 separate subscriptions.

If your customer's order contains a subscription as well as other items, the shipping fee applied to that order is applied for every future subscription cycle, even if the shipping cost is greater than it would be to ship the subscription item alone.

Tip: In some cases, you may want to ask your customer if they prefer to cancel and redo the subscription to reduce the shipping fee.

If the product is out of stock when the next subscription cycle occurs, the order is still created.

In other words, if a subscription customer has an order is created at the 1st of every month, an order is still created on June 1st even if your inventory status that day is zero.

Note: The order pushes your stock into negative numbers.
