Purchasing a Domain from Wix

A domain name is your site's personalized, unique address on the web. It's what people type into a browser to visit your site (Wix.com, for example). A unique and memorable domain name makes it easier for visitors to find your site, looks professional, and creates a distinct online space for your company and brand.

You can browse and purchase a domain for your site directly from Wix, and add domain privacy and domain security services for your peace of mind.

Before you begin:

Purchasing a domain from Wix

Choose a domain name that suits your business needs. For example, you may want to mention your business name or type of business in your domain name. Search for the desired name and extension (e.g. a .com domain or .net domain) to see if the domain you want is available. Once you've found the domain name you want to buy, choose how long you want to register it for (e.g. 1 year, 2 years, 3 years).

To purchase a domain:

  1. Go to Domains in your Wix account.

  2. Click Buy a Domain.

  3. Enter a domain name and extension in the search field, then click Search.

  4. If the domain is available, click Get It.

Tip: If the domain is not available, try searching for another domain or try our domain name generator.

  5. Select the registration period and click Continue.

  6. Enter or edit your contact information and click Continue.

  7. Select the relevant option under Privacy & Security:

    • Private Registration and DNSSEC (Recommended): Get full privacy and enhanced security for your domain. Your personal details stay hidden, and DNSSEC protects your site from cyberattacks.

    • Private Registration: Your contact details remain private in WHOIS records.

    • Public Registration: Your name, address, and contact information are replaced with generic info to reduce spam. Some details like country and organization remain public.

Note: If you decide later that you need private registration for your domain, you must purchase additional years of domain registration and choose a private registration option.

FAQs

Click a question below to learn more about purchasing domains from Wix.

You can see a list of available domain extensions here.

Yes you can. 'Premium' domains are domain names that have been deemed high-value by other registrars. They are often bought (and resold) by investors for a profit. Such names are decided by each registrar, at their own discretion.

You can purchase premium domains from Wix, or if you already have one you can connect the domain to your site. Learn more about premium domains.

The character limit of a domain purchased from Wix is 60 characters, except for .com.br, which has a limit of 26 characters.

Your domain is registered once you complete your purchase. The next step is to connect your domain to a site.

For more information about Wix domains, check out our overview of the domain registration process here.

How much your domain renewal will cost depends on a few factors. Learn more about the price of Wix domain renewals.

Visitors will still find your site if they enter your domain without the 'www' prefix. For example, typing 'wix.com' into your address bar will still get you to the Wix site.

The 'www' prefix is not actually part of your domain name. It's a subdomain which tells your browser to look for the web server that hosts your domain.

After submitting your purchase, your bank may require you to verify your identity. If you're experiencing any issues with the authentication process, you need to contact your bank directly. Learn more about strong customer authentication (SCA) requirements for online purchases.

Some countries and territories may not be listed in the Contact Info section when purchasing your domain. If your location is not listed, it is likely because it is not supported by ICANN (the domain regulatory body).

ICANN uses the ISO 3166-1 standard to maintain their list of supported territories and countries. You can learn more about the ISO 3166-1 standard from the ICANN website.

You can select an appropriate alternative country from the list where possible, but make sure that your address and other contact information is correct and accurate. Your contact information may need to be verified to prevent your domain from being deactivated.
