Pricing Plans: Pausing and Resuming a Plan

If your services are temporarily unavailable, or a client won’t be using their membership for a period of time, you can pause their plan to stop their benefits and payments.

For example, if a member lets you know they’ll be traveling or unavailable and asks you to temporarily withhold their membership, you can pause their plan until they’re ready to return. During the pause, clients won’t have access to benefits or be charged.

Important:

When you pause a subscription, future payment dates are postponed by the number of paused days, instead of issuing a refund or pro-rated payment.

Pausing a membership plan or package

You can pause a customer’s membership or package. While the plan is paused, the customer won’t be able to use it and will not be charged. When setting up the pause, you can also choose when the plan resumes:

  • Resume on a specific date: The plan resumes automatically on the date you select. Future payment dates are postponed by the number of paused days. You can change the resume date at any time.

  • Resume manually: The plan stays paused until you decide to resume it. Payment dates are postponed by the total paused days.

To pause a membership plan or package:

  1. Go to Subscriptions in your site's dashboard.

  2. Hover over the relevant client and click View.

  3. Click the Manage Subscription drop-down and select Pause subscription.

  4. Click the When do you want to pause? drop-down and select the relevant option:

    • Now: Pause the subscription immediately.

    • On a specific date: Schedule the pause to begin on a date you choose.

  5. Click the When do you want to resume? drop-down and select the relevant option:

    • On a specific date: The subscription automatically resumes on the chosen date.

    • Resume manually: The subscription stays paused until you decide to resume it.

  6. (Optional) Repeat steps 1 - 5 for other clients.

You cannot pause plans with future start dates. You can cancel the plan instead.

When you pause a plan, you pause access to all benefits and no longer collect additional payments until you resume the plan. See below for information on what happens when you paused different types of plans.

  • Recurring payment plans: Access to all benefits is paused. Upcoming payments are not collected. The plan end date is extended for the time the plan was paused.

For example, a client pays $50 monthly for a plan that lasts a year. The plan was purchased January 1 and ends December 31. On March 1, you pause the plan. You resume the plan on May 1. Between March 1 and May 1 your client does not have access to services. The March and April monthly payments are not collected. Payments are collected starting May 1. Since the plan was paused for 2 months, the plan now ends at the end of February instead of the end of December.

  • One-Time Payment plans: Access to all benefits is paused. The plan end date is automatically extended, based on the time the plan was paused.

  • Free plans: Access to all benefits is paused. The plan end date is automatically extended, based on the time the plan was paused.

  • Plans with a free trial period: Payments that were supposed to start at the end of the trial are not collected and access to all benefits is paused. The plan end date is automatically extended, based on the time the plan was paused.

When you resume a plan:

  • Clients regain access to services.

  • The duration of the client's plan extends. For instance, if a plan was supposed to end August 1, but was paused for a month, it will end September 1.

  • Recurring payments resume. For example, if before the pause there was a week left before the next payment, then after it resumes, there is also a week left before the next payment.

  • Packages restart from where they were. For example, if a client had 3 sessions remaining and 2 weeks left before their next payment, that's what they'll have when you resume.
