Closing Your Wix Account

You can close your Wix account if you're sure you no longer need it. Closing your account is not the same as canceling a subscription plan. If you want to keep access to your site, you can cancel your plan instead and use the free version.

Before you begin:

If the account owner has passed away, check whether they added you as their legacy contact before closing the account. As a designated legacy contact, you can request access to the account and its sites.

Already using the free version?

This article covers closing a Wix account that has premium subscriptions. If your account doesn't have any, skip directly to step 3.

Step 1 | Cancel or transfer your premium subscriptions

To close your Wix account, start with the premium subscriptions managed by the account. Cancel each subscription to turn off auto-renew, and pay any outstanding usage-based charges. You don't need to wait for a canceled subscription to expire. You can also transfer your subscriptions to another Wix account instead.

Choose what you want to do:

• Option 1 | Cancel your premium subscriptions

• Option 2 | Transfer your premium site and subscriptions

• Option 3 | Transfer your domain only

Canceling a domain?

Turn off auto-renew for your domain, or transfer it to another Wix account or an external registrar. Your domain stays registered until it expires, and you can still retrieve it during the Redemption Period if you change your mind.

Option 1 | Cancel your premium subscriptions

Cancel each subscription that you have in your account (e.g. site plan, domain, business email, app) separately.

To cancel your subscriptions:

1. Go to Premium Subscriptions in your Wix account.

2. Click the More Actions icon

   

   next to the relevant subscription.

3. Click Cancel plan/Domain/Mailbox/App.

4. Follow the on-screen instructions to cancel your subscription.

Option 2 | Transfer your premium site and subscriptions

When you transfer a premium site to another account, most of its connected subscriptions move with it. Use this option to merge 2 Wix accounts, or to give someone else ownership of your site.

Important:

Some premium subscriptions can't be transferred. Go to the Premium Subscriptions section of your account and unassign the subscription from your site first.

To transfer your premium site and subscriptions:

1. Go to your site's dashboard.

2. Click the Site Actions icon

   

   at the top of the page.

3. Click Transfer Site.

4. Enter the recipient's email address.

5. Fill out the Transfer Ownership form (here you can select the additional subscriptions you want to transfer).

6. Click Next.

7. Review and confirm the transfer details and click Transfer Ownership.

Option 3 | Transfer your domain only

You can transfer your Wix domain without transferring a site. Transfer it to another Wix account, or away from Wix entirely.

To transfer your domain:

1. Go to Domains in your Wix account.

2. Click the Domain Actions icon

   

   next to the relevant domain.

3. Click either Transfer away from Wix or Transfer to a different Wix account.

   Tip: If you see Remove from Wix, go to Step 2.

Tip:

You can transfer domains away from Wix or to another Wix account.

Step 2 | Remove any additional domains from your account

Remove any external domains that are still connected to your Wix account.

To remove a domain from your account:

1. Go to Domains in your Wix account.

2. Click the Domain Actions icon

   

   next to the relevant domain.

3. Click Remove from Wix.

Step 3 | Move your sites to Trash or transfer them

Next, choose what happens to the sites you own. Move each site to Trash, or transfer it to another Wix account to keep it running. You can also click Go to All Sites on the close-account page.

To move your sites to Trash:

1. Go to your site's dashboard.

2. Click the Site Actions icon

   

   at the top of the page.

3. Click Move to Trash.

4. Click Move to Trash to confirm.

5. Repeat these steps for all remaining sites in your account.

Step 4 | Close your account

Once you've handled your sites and premium subscriptions, you can close your account. The Close your Wix account page shows a card for anything that's still outstanding.

Important:

• Closing your account can't be undone. You lose access to your account and everything in it.

• Closing your account stops billing for the premium subscriptions managed by this account. If your payment method also pays for subscriptions in other Wix accounts, those keep running. Check your payment method before you close.

To close your account:

1. Go to Close your Wix account.

2. (Optional) Select a reason from the Select reason dropdown.

3. (Optional) Enter any other feedback you want to share.

4. Enter your password.

5. Click Close Account.

6. Click Close My Account to confirm.
