About Domains With No Grace Period

Your domain may expire either because the auto-renew option was turned off in your account, or because your payment was unsuccessful. In both cases, your domain usually enters the Grace Period.

Some domain endings do not have a Grace Period, during which your domain is reserved for you after it expires. Instead, these domains enter a Redemption Period of 30 days, giving you one last chance to retrieve your domain (for an additional cost) before becoming publicly available.

When is the renewal payment collected for my domain?

Renewal payment is collected 30 days before the anniversary of your domain purchase, if your domain is set to auto-renew.

How can I activate auto-renewal so my domain doesn't expire?

Check if you have auto-renewal turned on for your domain(s) by going to Premium Subscriptions in your Wix account. If needed, you can click Turn Auto Renew On.

What happens if my payment doesn't go through?

If your payment is unsuccessful, an email notification is sent to the email address associated with your Wix account.

If you do not see an email, be sure to look in your spam/promotion folders to avoid an unwanted expiry of your domain. You can choose to update your payment methods for a failed domain payment.

Note: The domain will expire if payment is not collected before the anniversary of your domain purchase, and enter the Redemption Period.

Can I renew my domain if it is in the Redemption Period?

Once the domain enters the Redemption Period, it is no longer possible to renew the domain by updating your payment details or extending the domain subscription from your Wix Account.
