- Studio Editor: Collaborating on a Site | Wix Expert
< Back Studio, Partners & Enterprise Wix Studio Studio Editor: Collaborating on a Site In the Studio Editor, your team can design powerful sites together in real time, while staying aligned and connected. Tell me more about collaborators in Wix Studio There are 2 types of collaborators you can have on a site: Teammates: These are added to the Team tab in the workspace by the team owner. They are the teammates that you work with on your projects and they have access to your team workspace. Learn how to manage your team. External site collaborators: These are other professionals you work with that are not part of your team, such as freelance designers, or clients that you invite to their own site once it's ready. You give them access to one specific site, and they cannot access your workspace. For both teammates and external collaborators, you can decide what roles and permissions they have on sites and in the workspace. You can also choose the mode they can access in the Studio Editor. In this article, read all about the features that help streamline the process while avoiding any overlaps between teammates and collaborators. Edit a site together The Studio Editor is a collaborative real-time platform that lets users work simultaneously on the same site. You can edit the layout, design and content of pages or elements without overriding people's actions. Changes made by other users appear in the Studio Editor within seconds. You can also see who's working on each element or page. This minimizes conflicts and allows you to collaborate efficiently with team members and site collaborators. Start collaborating: You can invite people to join your site directly from the Studio Editor. Click the Wix Studio icon at the top left. Hover over Site , then hover over T eam Work . Click Invite People to Collaborate . Manage people's access level on this site When inviting people to help edit a site, you can limit their editing permissions based on the areas they should handle. The Editor is automatically adjusted to each person's role so any unauthorized action is either hidden or disabled. On top of the role you choose for someone, you can also restrict the pages and global sections they're allowed to edit . Note: This action is only available if you're the site owner or co-owner. Use comments to stay in sync Use the Comments panel to streamline your team's communication and keep it organized in one place. Every site page has its own comments panel so that the comments are page-specific. The comment can be general or related to an element you choose. Make your comment more detailed by formatting your text and adding lists, images and files. You can also tag specific people who should see and address your comment, so they're automatically notified. Edit the code together Wix IDE In the Wix IDE, multiple collaborators (2 or more) can edit the code at the same time. Edits made in one instance of the IDE are synced to the other instance(s) in real time. Code editor Only 1 collaborator can edit the site's code at a single time. While that collaborator is editing the code, other collaborators working on the site have read-only permissions. This includes the code editor, as well as the public and backend files in the Code panel. However, they can edit the site's design and content as normal. Switching between the Wix IDE and Code panel You can choose where to edit code – the Wix IDE or the Code panel in the editor. It is not possible to edit the code in both platforms simultaneously. If someone is editing code in the Wix IDE, for example, the Code panel in the editor switches to read-only mode (and vice versa). If you want to edit your site's code in the Code panel, all site collaborators must close the Wix IDE. You can then click Start Coding in the Code panel. Did you know? Elements that are referenced in the code have a specific label in the editor, so all collaborators are aware. If a collaborator tries to delete one of these elements, they will see a pop-up recommending to check the code or consult a developer. - CMS: Managing Data Caching for Your Collections | Wix Expert
< Back Advanced features CMS CMS: Managing Data Caching for Your Collections CMS data caching helps your site load faster by storing and serving data from a caching layer instead of directly from the database. This significantly reduces the load on your server and improves page load times for visitors. However, caching can cause slight delays in showing updates to your site’s dynamic content. For example, if a visitor submits a comment or updates an item, it may take time for others to see the changes. To solve this, you can now use a toggle in the CMS to turn caching off for your entire site's collection data. This ensures that data is fetched directly from the database and updates are reflected more quickly. By default, CMS data caching is enabled unless you turn it off in the CMS advanced settings. Understanding CMS data caching Caching in the CMS works by speeding up data requests through a caching layer that stores results temporarily, improving your site’s performance and load times. However, caching can cause slight delays in displaying live content updates. For example, if a site visitor submits a form or posts a comment, their updates might not appear immediately to others due to caching. To minimize these delays, the caching system is designed to refresh periodically. Cached data is invalidated and refreshed whenever changes are made to the relevant collection, such as when adding or updating items. Additionally, the cache is cleared whenever you click Publish in your editor, ensuring the most up-to-date content appears on your site. Cached results are also automatically refreshed after one week, helping maintain data consistency. Caching applies selectively under specific conditions. For example, it works when the data request doesn’t change items in the collection, the collection is created in the CMS (a native Wix Data collection), or the request is made on behalf of anonymous visitors. However, caching is bypassed if the request modifies the collection, includes Personally Identifiable Information (PII), or uses backend services. It’s also disabled for logged-in users, who always see the latest updates instantly and when item visibility is enabled. For more detailed information about when caching is applied or bypassed, refer to the About Caching Data Query Results documentation. When you should disable caching Disabling caching is useful when your site involves updating dynamic content and displaying the updates as soon as possible. For example: Live comment sections : If updates need to appear quickly for anonymous visitors. Voting systems : Ensuring results are as up-to-date as possible. Dynamic marketplaces or event platforms : Reflecting frequent submissions, pricing updates, or user-inputted data. If caching is disabled, data requests will bypass the caching layer and retrieve information directly from the database. This ensures that updates are displayed shortly after they are made. However, disabling caching may result in slower load times, especially for high-traffic sites, as direct queries take more time than cached reads. If you're uncertain about disabling caching, consider testing it temporarily on your site to evaluate its effect on performance and update speed. You can log in to your live site to test it since logged-in users continue to see non-cached updates as soon as possible. Enabling and disabling data caching Go to your CMS settings to turn the Data caching toggle on or off. Tips: Disabling caching applies to the entire site's CMS collections as long as the conditions for data caching are met. Learn more about when data caching occurs . Default caching is designed to maximize performance for most use cases. Disabling should only be done when updates need to be reflected on the live site as soon as possible. To manage data caching: Go to CMS in your site's dashboard. Click the More Actions drop-down at the top and select Advanced Settings . Click the Data caching toggle to enable or disable caching on all your collections: Enabled: (Default) Caching is on, making collections load faster, but updates may take time to appear on the live site. Disabled: Caching is off, allowing updates to appear as soon as possible on the live site, though loading times may be slower. FAQs Click below for answers to common questions about caching your CMS data. How does disabling caching impact site performance? Disabling caching can slow down your site because data is fetched directly from the database instead of being served from the caching layer. This can be especially noticeable during high-traffic periods. Caching is recommended for most sites and should only be turned off if it’s essential to display data updates quickly. Can I selectively enable caching for specific pages or collections? No, data caching can only be enabled or disabled at the site level , which applies across all collections created within the site's CMS. If you need to exclude a specific workflow from caching, you can achieve this by using code that queries the database with the eventual consistency flag. This ensures that data retrieval bypasses the caching layer and fetches up-to-date information directly from the primary database instance. For more details, visit Wix Data and Eventual Consistency . How does the caching toggle ensure data accuracy for frequently changing content? When caching is disabled, data is fetched directly from the database instead of the caching layer. While this ensures that updates are displayed as soon as they are made, it can increase the load on your database, particularly during high-traffic periods. Use this option when accuracy and immediacy outweigh performance considerations. What happens when cached data is invalidated (cleared)? Cache invalidation allows new, updated data to be cached and returned to visitors in future date requests. The cache is automatically cleared when: A data request makes changes to the collection or to any of its items. Any cached results that reference the modified collection are also cleared. When the site is published. When the results have been cached for over a week. This ensures that visitors experience minimal delays in accessing updated data while maintaining overall site performance. Learn more about data cache invalidation . Does data caching apply to Wix App and Wix Form collections? No. The data is not automatically cached with Wix App collections and new Wix Form collections. However, old Wix Form collections do use data caching to speed up pages where the data appears. This article is credited to the Wix team - https://support.wix.com/ and we thank them for that!
