- Studio Editor: Managing Dropdowns in a Menu | Wix Expert
< Back Studio, Partners & Enterprise Wix Studio Studio Editor: Managing Dropdowns in a Menu Dropdowns are versatile menu items that function as both submenus and containers, so you can create an experience tailored to your client's business needs. Use items and sub-items to create nesting menus, and organize them to look how you want. You can also attach elements such as media and buttons to display eye-catching custom content. Before you begin: Dropdowns can only be added from new menus in the Studio Editor. If you have the previous menu experience, you can create submenus and add mega menus . Adding menu items to a dropdown Choose which menu items you want to show in the dropdown. You can add existing menu items, or create new items as you go. To add menu items to a dropdown: Select the relevant menu in the editor. Click Manage Menu . (Optional) Add new items to the menu: Click + Add Item . Select the item type you want to add and set it up. Change the item name in the menu. Click and drag relevant menu items to move them under the dropdown. Adding sub-items to a dropdown item Once you've added items to your dropdown, place sub-items under them to create multiple layers of navigation. Sub-items help you organize sequential content, and make it even easier for visitors to find what they need. For example, the Shop dropdown in the following image contains items titled 'Gifts for friends' and 'Gifts for family'. Both have sub-items underneath them: 'Gifts up to $50'. To create sub-menu items in a dropdown: Select the relevant menu in the editor. Click Manage Menu . (Optional) Add new item to the menu: Click + Add Item . Select the item type you want to add and set it up. Change the item name in the menu. Move the item into the dropdown. Drag the item to move it under the relevant 'parent' item in the dropdown. Hover over the sub-item and click the More Actions icon . Select Move under "Item name" . Managing dropdown menu items You can always adjust existing items and sub-items in a dropdown menu. Remove irrelevant ones, rename them, or change the order of the content to keep it fresh. To manage dropdown menu items: Select the relevant menu in the editor. Click Manage Menu . Choose what to do next: Change an item's link Hover over the relevant item and click the More Actions icon . Click Change Link . Change the link type and / or its details. Click Done . Tip: You can also click Remove Link to delete a link from the item. Rename an item Hover over the relevant item and click the More Actions icon . Click Rename . Enter the new name. Press the Enter key on your keyboard to save your changes. Move an item out of the dropdown menu Hover over the relevant item and click the More Actions icon . Click Move out of "Dropdown title" . Tip: You can follow the same steps to move a dropdown sub-item from its 'parent' item. Remove an item Hover over the relevant item and click the More Actions icon . Click Remove from menu . Reorder items Hold the Reorder icon next to an item and drag it to the desired position. Good to know: You can manage the dropdown item itself by following the same steps as above. Adding elements to a dropdown container Since dropdowns are containers, you can use them to display a variety of elements. Add images, buttons, and more to create a unique look on your client's site. To add elements to a dropdown: Select the relevant menu in the editor. Click Manage Menu . Hover over the dropdown in the panel. Click Edit to edit the dropdown container. Click Add Elements on the left side of your editor. Click and drag the elements you want to add them to the container. Note: Navigation elements (e.g. buttons, linked text) that link to site pages are not fully accessible in dropdown containers. If you want to link to a site page from the dropdown, we recommend adding it as a dropdown item instead. What's next? Customize every part of the dropdown to complement the site and menu's design. FAQs Select a question below to learn more about dropdowns in new menus. What's the difference between mega menus and dropdowns? Mega menus and dropdowns are containers you can add to a site menu, and use to display submenus and additional elements. In the previous menu element, these were called mega menus . In this menu experience, they're called dropdowns. How many levels of navigation can I add to the new menu? You can add sub-items under dropdown items in a menu, providing 3 layers of navigation in total (Menu item -> dropdown item - > dropdown sub-item). Can I set dropdown sub-items to expand on click or hover? Sub-items you add to dropdown items are always visible in the dropdown menu—so it's not possible to set them to open on click or hover. If you would like to see this option in the future, you can vote for it here . This article is credited to the Wix team - https://support.wix.com/ Previous Next Need An AI Run Website? To convert an automation field into a formula field, click Customize above the field. This opens a comprehensive list of data types, functions, values, and schema properties, providing everything you need to build your expression. The Functions tab The Functions tab offers a categorized library of customizable functions to help you build complex logic. Functions are grouped into categories like Math, Text, Date & Time, Array, and Logic. Hover over a function to view details, including its description, examples, and return data type. Important tips: Ensure you're using the correct input data type and consider the output of the function. For example, if you choose a Text data type like 'Contact Email' in a Sum function, you will encounter an error (see the image below). The Sum function requires a numeric input, not text. If you need to replace the data type (e.g., replace a 'Sum' function with a 'Concat' function which expects text) click Clear at the top right of the formula field to reset the expected output type. Otherwise, you will receive an error, as the field already expects a number output. The Values tab The Values tab provides context-specific values for your flow, including those from triggers and general values like the current date, which can be selected using the date picker. These values can be used as inputs when building your expressions. Building an expression with the formula field Customize your automation flow by converting a field into a formula field. This allows you to build complex expressions using the different tabs. To build an expression with the formula field: Create or edit an automation. Click the step you want to adjust (e.g., condition). Click Customize next to a field to convert it into a formula field. Build your expression using the Properties, Function, and Values tabs. She wants to automate a check on all new products created to see if their profit margins fall below a certain percentage of their cost. If they do, a member of Sarah's team should automatically receive a task to enhance that product's profitability. She can set up this automation using a formula field. To build this automation using a formula field: Create an automation from scratch . Make sure Product created is selected as the trigger. Click + to add a step. Click Condition . Click the property pop-up to select Profit . Cilck the Select logic drop-down and select 'is less than ' under the Number data type. Click Customize to convert the 'Enter a number' field into a formula field. Click the Functions tab to start building your expression. Under Math functions select Multiply . Click the Properties tab. Select Item Cost from the list (use the search bar if you can't locate it). Enter the relevant percentage (e.g, 1.2) to the right of the semicolon in the expression. Click Apply . Click + to add a step in the Then flow. Click Action . Click Create a task . Continue customizing your action: Add a task for you or your team: Write in a description of the task or instructions. Assign to you or your team: Select as assignee for the task. Set a due date: Toggle on or off a due date for the task. Number of days to complete task: Set the number of days assigned to complete the task. Click Activate . FAQs Click a question below to learn more about using the formula field in Wix Automations. How do I know if a field is a formula field? If a field has a sigma icon, it can be converted into a formula field. Click Customize to open the list of properties, functions, and values. Can I revert a formula field back to its original type? Yes. You can easily switch a formula field back to its original configuration by clicking the Clear button. What data types are supported in the formula field? Most common data types are supported, including text, numbers, dates, and arrays. However, some advanced configurations might restrict certain inputs, such as objects or specific types of arrays. What if my formula contains errors? If your formula has errors, they will be clearly highlighted with messages explaining the issue. You’ll need to fix these errors before you can save the formula. Learn more about resolving errors in your formula . Can I use keyboard operators when building my formula such as '?,-,=,+'? Currently, keyboard operators like ?,+, -, and = are not supported. Instead, there are dedicated functions designed for these arithmetic operations. What are some tips for using a formula field effectively? Start with simple formulas and gradually introduce complexity as needed. Leverage nesting by using functions as arguments for other functions to achieve advanced logic (and make sure they return the expected input). Consult function descriptions and examples. Customers click the Pre-Order button to purchase a product as they would for any other shop item. As soon as it's in stock, you can fulfill it. Notes: Pre-order is not currently available through the standalone Add to Cart button . When customers pre-order a product, they pay the full amount in advance. It's not possible to collect partial payment at checkout. Enabling pre-orders for products without product options You can enable pre-order while creating or editing a product. This makes the pre-order button appear when the product is out of stock. For example, you can create a new product with 50 items in stock and enable pre-order. As long as the product is in stock, customers can purchase it. When the product is out of stock, the "Add to Cart" button changes to "Pre-Order". To enable pre-ordering: Go to Store Products in your site's dashboard. Create a new physical product or edit an existing one. Scroll down to the Inventory and pre-order section. Click the Sell as pre-order when this product is out of stock toggle to enable it. Enter a short pre-order message. Tip: Include an availability message, such as 'Ready to ship by mid-May'.The note is displayed above the pre-order button. (Optional) Limit the number of possible pre-orders for this product: Select the Limit the number of items available for pre-order checkbox. Enter the maximum number of pre-orders you can accept. Limiting pre-orders: Set a pre-order limit if you anticipate higher demand than you can fulfill. To be able to set a limit, you must track specific inventory amounts . Enabling pre-orders for products with product options Even if a product has variants, you can still follow the instructions above for products without variants. Initially, the settings will apply to all variants. This means that each variant is available for pre-order, each one displays the same message, and has the same pre-order limit. When you click Edit Variant , you'll see the settings applied to each variant and you'll be able to customize them individually. Tip: You can also enable pre-order per variant from Edit Variants without enabling it for the entire product. To customize pre-order settings per variant: Follow the instruction in the section above for products without variants. Create the product options you need for the product. Click Edit Variants . Click the Allow pre-order toggle for each variant to enable or disable it. Note: If you don't see the pre-order settings, check the FAQ to see how to display them. Enter a short pre-order message. (Optional) Add a product limit: Click Limit the number of items available for pre-order checkbox. Enter the maximum number of pre-orders you can accept for this product. Click Done . Click Apply & Continue . Click Save . Limiting pre-orders: Set a limit if you think you might get more pre-orders than you can handle. To be able to set a limit, you must track specific inventory amounts . Fulfilling pre-ordered products and managing inventory When customers pre-order your product, your inventory (if you're tracking specific amounts) goes into negative numbers. This negative number indicates how many pre-orders you have for the product. When you get new stock and update the stock levels, you need to take into consideration the products that are pre-ordered. For example, if you have 12 pre-orders, your stock level is -12. If you get 50 units in, you need to update your stock level to 38 (50 - 12 = 38), rather than updating it to 50. To fulfill a pre-ordered product and manage inventory: Update inventory to include the pre-orders: Go to Store Products in your site's dashboard. Select the relevant product. Scroll down to the Inventory and shipping section. Calculate how much inventory you need to add (amount of new units minus the number of pre-orders). Update the inventory level. Fulfill pre-ordered products: Go to Orders in your site's dashboard. Filter your orders to locate orders that contain the pre-ordered product: Click Filter . In the Products filter, select the relevant product. Click Done . Fulfill the order as you would any other order. Tip: In the Orders tab, orders with pre-ordered items display an indication under the product name and SKU. No, pre-order isn't available for product subscriptions. Note that if you have a product that can be sold both as a subscription and as a one-time purchase, you cannot allow customers to pre-order it. Can I allow customers to pre-order a digital product? Can pre-order be used as part of a crowdfunding campaign? If Wix Payments is your payment provider, you cannot use pre-order to deliver products that are crowdfunded. If you use another payment provider, check their policies about crowdfunding campaigns. Note: When using Wix Payments, products should be delivered after no more than 12 months. Where does the 'Pre-Order' button appear on my site? The 'Pre-Order' button appears in the Product Page. In addition, if you decided to display the Add to Cart button in a Product Gallery, it changes to "Pre-Order" when the stock level goes down to zero. How can I use ribbons to let customers know about pre-order products? You can add a ribbon so customers viewing the product in the gallery see that it's available for pre-order. This isn't necessary if you enabled the 'Add to Cart' button in the gallery, since the button text automatically changes to "Pre-Order". Important: When a product is back in stock, the pre-order button automatically changes to "Add to Cart". The ribbon, however, won't change automatically. If you added a ribbon to a pre-order product, make sure you remove it when it's no longer relevant. What happens if a customer orders an in-stock product and a pre-order product? You can fulfill part of an order and add a tracking number to that shipment. Then, when the pre-ordered item is in stock, you can ship it and add a 2nd tracking number. What happens if I enable both back-in-stock notifications and pre-orders? If you enabled the back-in-stock notifications feature as well as enabling pre-orders for one or more products, customers see only the option to pre-order those products. How do I set up shipping for pre-ordered products? You can use your regular shipping rules for pre-ordered products. By the time you are ready to fulfil the order, the product is no longer on pre-order. This article is credited to the Wix team - https://support.wix.com/ Previous Next Need An AI Run Website?
