- Studio Editor: About Cells and Grids | Wix Expert
< Back Studio, Partners & Enterprise Wix Studio Studio Editor: About Cells and Grids Grids are a powerful tool when it comes to responsive design. The grid is made up of cells, and each element, or group of elements, gets its own cell. This keeps your layout in place on every screen size, ensuring that elements don't overlap. You can add cells to organize a section, or apply an advanced CSS grid for more precise control. The CSS grid is also available for elements like containers and repeater items which cannot be split into cells. Section grid In the Studio Editor, sections come with a built-in grid, containing a single cell (housing the entire section). Split the section layout into more cells to give a responsive structure to the content. There are various customizable layouts to choose from. After choosing the relevant layout, refine it to your needs by adding new cells or splitting existing ones . To adjust the size of each cell, just drag the grid lines on the canvas. Advanced CSS grid Need more precise control of the section grid? Switch to an advanced CSS grid to adjust the rows, columns and their size with advanced measurements (e.g. fr, Min/max, %). You can tailor these settings per breakpoint so the grid makes sense on every screen size. Apply an advanced CSS grid on an entire section, or just a specific cell. It's also a way to add a grid to elements other than sections, like a container or a repeater item. If the option is available, you can find it under the Layout section in the Inspector panel. Frequently asked questions (FAQs) Click a question below to learn more about grids in the Studio Editor. How do I know which grid is right for the section? Switching to a CSS grid gives you more precise control of the layout per breakpoint. You can set the number of rows and columns you want, and set their size using advanced responsive measurements (e.g. fr, Min/max, %). If you just need the section's elements to have an organized and responsive layout - there is no need to switch to an advanced grid. Set the size of each cell on the current canvas, and we'll ensure the cells look great on every screen. Does switching to a CSS grid disrupt the existing layout? No, the elements don't move around when you switch to an advanced CSS grid. A new layout of rows and columns simply replaces the previous one, based on the number of cells you had. For example, if you had multiple cells in 1 row, a column is automatically added so the elements stay in separate cells. Dealing with overlapping elements? - Enterprise Solution: Sharing CMS Collections with Sites and Templates | Wix Expert
< Back Studio, Partners & Enterprise Enterprise Solution Enterprise Solution: Sharing CMS Collections with Sites and Templates Coordinate content across multiple sites and templates and manage data effortlessly with shared CMS (Content Management System) collections. With shared collections, your enterprise gains a cohesive experience, streamlined data handling, and an elevated digital presence. For example, picture your enterprise collaborating with numerous partners, each showcasing your products on their websites. Converting your catalog into a shared collection lets you connect elements across these sites to the same collection. This ensures that updates you make as the CMS manager instantly affect all these websites, guaranteeing consistent, current content that reinforces your brand's credibility. Another example use case is to visualize your enterprise's lineup of marketing pages, each featuring lead generation forms. Embracing shared collections consolidates data from various sites into a central hub. This empowers you to efficiently manage and analyze leads, optimizing your marketing strategy. The payoff is a focused and impactful outreach, fueling your enterprise's expansion. Dive in to revolutionize content management across your enterprise sites and templates. Learn more about Wix Studio for enterprise or contact our sales team . Sharing CMS collections with other sites or templates CMS collections in the Wix Studio enterprise solution are managed at the account level and are not tied to any single site. Account owners, Co-owners, and teammates with enterprise dashboard permissions for "Manage Organization CMS" can share these collections to make them available across multiple sites or templates. On the destination sites, shared collections are read-only . This means site or template designers can bind the data to elements like repeaters and dynamic pages to display it, but they cannot edit the collection or add new items. When sharing, you can choose to only share certain collection items across the other sites or templates. To share a CMS collection with another site or template: Go to CMS in your enterprise dashboard. Click the collection you want to share. Click Share With Sites at the top. Click Sites or Templates at the top to choose which type to share the collection with. Enable the Share collection toggle next to the relevant site or template. (If necessary) Click Share in the popup message. (Optional) Click the All items shared drop-down next to the toggle to deselect any items you do not want to share, then click Close . (Optional) Repeat steps 5-8 to share with more sites or templates. Click Done . Working with Wix App Collections in Your Code You reference the collections that Wix Apps add to your site similar to how you reference collections you create yourself, with one difference. To reference a collection in your code that you created yourself, you just use the collection name in the code. For example, this code retrieves an item with an ID of 00001 from the collection named myCollection: wixData.get("myCollection", "00001"); To reference a collection that a Wix App added to your site you need to also include the App name in the path of the collection name. For example, let's say you also want to retrieve an item with an ID of 00001, but this time from the PrivateMembersData collection inside the Members database. In this case, you need to include Members in the path for the collection name, like this: wixData.get("Members/PrivateMembersData", "00001"); You can also use Wix Data to add and update information in some Wix App collections. For example: let collectionToInsert = { title: "New Collection", }; wixData.insert("Portfolio/Collections", collectionToInsert).then((item) => { console.log(item); }); FAQs Click below for answers to frequently asked questions about shared collections. How do I set collection permissions? In your Wix Studio for enterprise account, the Organization CMS Manager role replaces the Admin role used in other account types. Only the Organization CMS Manager can manage permissions for each collection in the Enterprise dashboard. To set permissions and privacy for a collection: Go to CMS in your enterprise dashboard. Click the More Actions icon on the relevant collection. Select Permissions & privacy . Choose which permissions you want the collection to have: Show content: Allow everyone or only site members to view the collection content on your live site. Admins and collaborators with CMS access always have full access to view, add, update, or delete collection items. Collect content: Allow everyone or only site members to add new items to the collection from your live site with input elements or API. Also, specify who can view the content. Admins and collaborators with CMS access always have full access to view, add, update, or delete collection items. Advanced: Set custom permissions for each user role to control who can view, add, update, or delete collection content. Admins and collaborators with CMS access have full access. However, you can set permissions for specific collaborator roles to restrict their access to the collection. Click Save . Note: Even if 'Collect content' or 'Show content' permissions usually allow writing, shared collections are always read-only on destination sites. Site visitors cannot submit data to these collections. Learn more about CMS collection permissions . Can I share collections with multiple sites simultaneously? Yes, you can conveniently bulk share with multiple sites. When choosing sites or templates to share with, you can either filter by folder or use the search tool. Click the checkmarks to select the relevant sites, then click Set share status and select Share with sites . Note: If you share a collection that contains a reference field, the referenced collection is also shared. Can I exclude specific items from sharing with certain sites? Absolutely. By default, when you share a collection with a site or template, all items are shared. However, after enabling the Share collection toggle, you can click All items shared to deselect the items you do not want to share. If you share a collection that contains a reference field, the referenced collection is also shared. Are newly added items shared automatically? Yes, by default new items added to a shared collection are automatically shared. If you wish to exclude an item from sharing, you need to actively exclude it. If you're editing an item but don't want it to appear on sites yet, you can set it to "draft" mode. This allows the item to be seen in the collection but not displayed on the sites. What happens if I delete a shared collection? Deleting a collection results in its removal from all sites and templates. Any page elements that were connected to the collection are disconnected. What happens if I stop sharing a collection with sites and templates? If you stop sharing a collection with sites or templates, any page elements that were connected to the collection are disconnected. How will shared collections impact site owners and CMS collaborators? Site owners and CMS collaborators will notice an indicator labeling the collection as a shared collection. They won't be able to edit content or data structure (schema) from the collection directly. Destination sites have read access only —they cannot write to, update, or delete items in shared collections, even via API. What does it mean to share a collection with a template? Shared collections apply similarly to custom templates as they do to regular sites. Sharing a collection with a template allows the template designer to connect elements within the template to the shared collection. When sites are generated from this template, they also receive the shared collection, with elements connected to it. Note: If you share a collection that contains a reference field, the referenced collection is also shared. Can I duplicate collections in the Wix Studio for enterprise solution? Yes. You can duplicate account-based CMS collections that are not tied to any particular sites in the enterprise dashboard. These collections remain independent and can be reused across multiple sites or templates. However, you cannot duplicate shared collections within individual sites. Tip : To determine whether a collection is shared or account-based, navigate to the enterprise dashboard and review the collection’s details under its settings. How do quotas apply to shared collections? Shared collections utilize the destination site's quotas for RPM (Requests Per Minute) and request timeout budgets. < Back Need more help? About Wix Wix Site and Content Ownership Wix provides you with a platform to create websites to reach your online audience. In the event of a dispute between several parties, Wix will determine site ownership by using established guidelines. We reserve the right to determine and/or grant ownership to an account or site based on our reasonable judgment, whether or not an independent investigation has been conducted by us. To determine ownership of a Wix account or site, keep the following in mind. Wix account ownership Typically, the owner of a Wix account is identified by the email address listed in Wix’s records. If there’s a dispute over account ownership, Wix may: Investigate and determine ownership using its judgment. Request proof, like an ID or business license. Suspend the account until all parties resolve the issue. Free site ownership The owner of any sites or content is the owner of the Wix account under which the content was created. In most cases, the owner of the account is considered to be the person or entity who has access to the email address listed in Wix's records. Upgraded (Premium / Studio) site ownership If a Premium or Studio site plan was purchased, ownership is typically tied to the billing details of the person or entity used to make the payment. A payment method connected to a Wix account can be removed if the owner of the payment method wishes it to be disconnected. Domain ownership When a domain is connected to a Wix account, Wix may: Recognize the domain registrant (listed in databases like ICANN ) as the domain’s owner. If billing details and domain owner details conflict, Wix may prioritize the domain’s registrant as the owner. FAQs Click a question below to learn more about ownership. - Double Charge Appearing on Your Bank Statement | Wix Expert
< Back Billing & premium subscriptions Charges, payments and tax Double Charge Appearing on Your Bank Statement There are a few reasons why you might see a higher than expected charge on your bank statement. The amount is not an actual charge, but an authorization (pending charge) When paying for certain services by credit card, your credit card company may authorize your card for the amount due before the actual funds are taken. The authorization appears on your bank statement and may look like a charge, however no actual funds are taken. It should disappear within a month. If the authorization does not disappear, please contact your bank for further information. Note: Charges are made in different currencies depending on your location. The authorization and charge might differ in your local currency due to a change in the exchange rate between the time of the authorization and the charge. A previously failed payment was successfully charged There are a number of reasons why a payment might fail , including an expired credit card or insufficient funds. When a payment is declined, Wix automatically attempts to charge it again a few days later. This continues until the payment is successful. If you had a failed payment in your account from a previous time, Wix might charge for that amount, as well as your current payment, at the same time. This would lead to two charges appearing on your bank statement in the same month. You can check to see which service each of the payments are for by checking the invoice number . There is an additional charge for a renewal, or for another Wix service If you received a discount for your first site plan purchase during a sale, the sale price is for the first year of service only. All subsequent renewals are at the regular yearly rate. Once you upgrade, you can check your upcoming renewal charges in your account. We also consolidate your recurring payments into one single charge to avoid multiple transactions. For example, if you have upcoming payments due for a site plan, domain, business email, and paid apps, they may be bundled into one charge. You can check what the payment was for by checking your invoices. Learn more about viewing your invoices . Still not sure why you see two charges? Take a screenshot of your bank statement and contact us for further clarification. Make sure your screenshot only shows the last 4 digits of your credit card number . - Accessibility: Preparing Your Images and Galleries | Wix Expert
< Back Building an accessible site Making your site accessible Accessibility: Preparing Your Images and Galleries Visitors who have visual conditions may use assistive technology such as screen readers to browse your site. Add descriptions to images and galleries using alternative (alt) text to make them accessible to these visitors. Alt text provides information about site media, and helps search engines and screen readers 'read' them. Where does Wix get its information? We make recommendations as per the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) document , which has been developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) . This article is based on the following success criteria: Non-text Content (1.1.1) Images of Text (1.4.5) Guidelines for writing alt text When writing accessibility-focused alt text, we recommend keeping the following points in mind: Choose the focus: Identify the most important message or information in the image, and center the alt text around that information. Be descriptive and specific: Alt text should clearly, sufficiently, and accurately explain the content of the image to visitors. Make sure to not use the same alt text for 2 or more images on a single site page. Keep context in mind: Consider how the image relates to the page content. Be concise: We recommend keeping alt text brief. Only include the relevant details, and avoid redundant or repeated information (e.g., it does not need to include terms such as 'image of', or 'picture of'). Tip: Include your site's keywords to also optimize the alt text for SEO. Adding alt text in your editor Alt text ensures that visitors using screen readers can access and understand the content on your site, so we recommend adding it to all relevant images as you upload them. Tip: Make sure to publish the site so the alt text is live. Adding alt text to single images Add alt text to images in your site builder (Wix Editor, Studio Editor and Wix Harmony Editor) from the Settings panel. Wix Editor Go to your editor . Click the Edit icon next to the relevant image. Click the checkbox next to This image is decorative. Alt text is not required as it doesn't contain any important info for screen readers . Click Apply . Good to know: You should add alt text to any images that contain links, and not mark them as decorative. Showing text in images on your site This refers to images that contain pictured or added text. Text in images cannot be "read" by search engines or screen readers. However, if the image is necessary, and the text has context to the site, you can add it to the image description. If the text does not have context or doesn't contribute to the content of the site, you do not need to add it to the image description. Select an option below to learn more about image text you should and shouldn't add to the image description. Important text Relevant text is text in images that are important to the context of the site, and contribute to the content. For example, the image below may be present on a news site detailing the events of a protest. The text in the image has relevance to the site's context, so it should be added to the image's description. It may read: A group of people at a protest. One of the protestors is holding up a sign that says "No!" Unimportant text Examples of text in images that may not be relevant include watermarks, or text that is added or pictured for decorative purposes. For example, the image below may be displayed on a blog post about a cathedral. The text on the signs are not relevant to the context of the post, so they do not need to be included in the alt text. The image description might read: A street signpost in front of a cathedral. The signpost is covered in flowers. Showing images of text on your site Images of text contain only text, and no other pictured elements. Some examples of this include pictures of fonts, or logos that contain text only. As they are not "real" text elements, images of text cannot be read by search engines or screenreaders. We recommend avoiding them where possible, and replacing them with real text elements to improve SEO and accessibility on your site. Next step: Go back to the Accessibility Checklist to continue improving your site for accessibility.
