- Wix Automations: Customizing Your Data with a Formula Field | Wix Expert
< Back Managing your business Managing your customers Wix Automations: Customizing Your Data with a Formula Field Before you begin: This article is intended for advanced users. Creating advanced expressions using the formula field requires familiarity with schema properties and data types/formats. In Wix Automations, use the formula field to build complex expressions and manipulate data. It enables you to create custom workflows using a combination of functions and schema properties. To convert an automation field into a formula field, click Customize above the field. This opens a comprehensive list of data types, functions, values, and schema properties, providing everything you need to build your expression. The formula field tabs When you convert a field into a formula field, multiple tabs help you build expressions and logic for your automation flows. Click their names at the top to navigate between tabs and select elements to add to your expression. The Properties tab The Properties tab lists all the data available from the triggers and actions in your automation flow. For example, if the trigger is Wix Forms, this tab displays form-related data, such as form fields. Learn more about using the property picker. The Functions tab The Functions tab offers a categorized library of customizable functions to help you build complex logic. Functions are grouped into categories like Math, Text, Date & Time, Array, and Logic. Hover over a function to view details, including its description, examples, and return data type. Important tips: Ensure you're using the correct input data type and consider the output of the function. For example, if you choose a Text data type like 'Contact Email' in a Sum function, you will encounter an error (see the image below). The Sum function requires a numeric input, not text. If you need to replace the data type (e.g., replace a 'Sum' function with a 'Concat' function which expects text) click Clear at the top right of the formula field to reset the expected output type. Otherwise, you will receive an error, as the field already expects a number output. The Values tab The Values tab provides context-specific values for your flow, including those from triggers and general values like the current date, which can be selected using the date picker. These values can be used as inputs when building your expressions. Building an expression with the formula field Customize your automation flow by converting a field into a formula field. This allows you to build complex expressions using the different tabs. To build an expression with the formula field: Create or edit an automation. Click the step you want to adjust (e.g., condition). Click Customize next to a field to convert it into a formula field. Build your expression using the Properties, Function, and Values tabs. Click Apply . Click the example below to view step-by-step instructions of how to set up an expression with the formula field. Example of using the formula field to build an automation Sarah owns an online store. She wants to automate a check on all new products created to see if their profit margins fall below a certain percentage of their cost. If they do, a member of Sarah's team should automatically receive a task to enhance that product's profitability. She can set up this automation using a formula field. To build this automation using a formula field: Create an automation from scratch . Make sure Product created is selected as the trigger. Click + to add a step. Click Condition . Click the property pop-up to select Profit . Cilck the Select logic drop-down and select 'is less than ' under the Number data type. Click Customize to convert the 'Enter a number' field into a formula field. Click the Functions tab to start building your expression. Under Math functions select Multiply . Click the Properties tab. Select Item Cost from the list (use the search bar if you can't locate it). Enter the relevant percentage (e.g, 1.2) to the right of the semicolon in the expression. Click Apply . Click + to add a step in the Then flow. Click Action . Click Create a task . Continue customizing your action: Add a task for you or your team: Write in a description of the task or instructions. Assign to you or your team: Select as assignee for the task. Set a due date: Toggle on or off a due date for the task. Number of days to complete task: Set the number of days assigned to complete the task. Click Activate . FAQs Click a question below to learn more about using the formula field in Wix Automations. How do I know if a field is a formula field? If a field has a sigma icon, it can be converted into a formula field. Click Customize to open the list of properties, functions, and values. Can I revert a formula field back to its original type? Yes. You can easily switch a formula field back to its original configuration by clicking the Clear button. What data types are supported in the formula field? Most common data types are supported, including text, numbers, dates, and arrays. However, some advanced configurations might restrict certain inputs, such as objects or specific types of arrays. What if my formula contains errors? If your formula has errors, they will be clearly highlighted with messages explaining the issue. You’ll need to fix these errors before you can save the formula. Learn more about resolving errors in your formula . Can I use keyboard operators when building my formula such as '?,-,=,+'? Currently, keyboard operators like ?,+, -, and = are not supported. Instead, there are dedicated functions designed for these arithmetic operations. What are some tips for using a formula field effectively? Start with simple formulas and gradually introduce complexity as needed. Leverage nesting by using functions as arguments for other functions to achieve advanced logic (and make sure they return the expected input). Consult function descriptions and examples. - CMS: Adding a Dynamic Page for Managing Items on Your Live Site | Wix Expert
< Back Advanced features CMS CMS: Adding a Dynamic Page for Managing Items on Your Live Site Add a pre-built dynamic page to your site that lets collaborators or site members manage CMS collection content directly from your live site. This Manage Item page includes a version for each collection item, each with its own dynamic URL. Visitors select the item they want to manage using a dropdown input, which navigates them to the relevant page version. From there, they can use input elements and buttons connected to dataset actions to add, edit, or delete content. You can control which roles have access to this page, including specific collaborator roles, and tailor their permissions to view, add, update, or delete collection items. This allows you to customize access levels to suit your site’s needs and ensure that sensitive collection data is handled only by trusted individuals. Just like any dynamic page, this page can be customized to fit your site’s design and functionality. Additionally, you can choose to only allow certain site members to access the page itself from permissions in the page settings. This lets you restrict access to all site members, specific member roles, or members with pricing plan subscriptions. Important: This feature is available in the Studio Editor only. However, you can create a similar page in the Wix Editor with input elements and interactive buttons. Learn how to create a page in the Wix Editor that lets members manage collection content from your live site . To use this page, set your collection to Publish changes immediately instead of Save changes as draft first . Changes that visitors save on this page go live right away. How the dynamic Manage Item page works View details about how this dynamic Manage Item page is set up and used below. Input elements let users select and edit collection items The dynamic Manage Item page uses a dynamic URL that changes depending on which collection item is selected on the page. The page includes input elements that are pre-connected to each of the collection's supported fields. Authorized site members and collaborators can use these input elements to update the field values of the selected collection item. When you create a dynamic Manage Item page, the following supported collection field types automatically connect to input elements on the page: Text , Number , URL , Boolean , Date , Time , Image , Rich Text , Address How authorized site viewers use this Manage Item page On your live site's Manage Item page, visitors first choose which collection item they want to edit from the dropdown input element at the top. This dropdown input connects to a 'Read' mode dataset named 'Filter', and is set to filter the dataset by whichever item the visitor selects. The site visitor then clicks the 'Go' button, which connects to the same 'Filter' dataset. The 'Go' button has a click action that takes visitors to the selected item's version of the page. As a result, the URL ending of the page changes to reflect the selected item and the inputs display the item's existing field values. The visitor can now begin editing the item's existing field values displayed in the input elements. The updated values do not save to the collection until the visitor clicks the 'Save' button. Visitors can choose from the following interactive buttons at the bottom of the page: Save: The 'Save' button causes the input elements to update the existing collection item's field values. After updating the values in the input elements, users must click the 'Save' button to submit these changes and update the selected item. This button connects to the dataset's 'Submit' click action . Delete: The 'Delete' button completely removes the item and its field values from the collection. This button connects to the dataset's 'Delete' click action . Undo Changes: The 'Undo Changes' button reverts the input elements in case the user made changes to them but hasn't submitted the changes. This button connects to the dataset's 'Revert' click action . Previous / Next: The 'Previous' and 'Next' buttons load the previous or next item's unique version of the page. This lets visitors cycle through each collection item that is read by the dataset. These buttons connect to the dataset's 'Previous / Next dynamic page' click action . Dynamic Manage Item pages are configured to update existing collection items: The Manage Item page is set up to allow visitors to update existing collection items . If you want them to add new items to your collection from this page, you can add a 'New' button and connect it to the same dataset as your input elements. Alternatively, you could connect input elements and a 'Submit' button to a separate 'Write' mode dataset that connects to your collection. Visitors can also use the Data API to add items as long as the collection permissions allow 'Add' access. Permissions in the collection By default, collection permissions are set to 'Show content'. This means that only site owners and CMS admin collaborators can use the inputs to update the collection items. To allow other people to interact with this page, adjust the collection's permissions to specify who can view, add, update, and delete content. If you want to control the access level of specific collaborator roles more precisely, you can use the 'Advanced' permissions settings. Advanced permissions are particularly useful for managing sensitive information, such as user submissions. By limiting access, you simplify the collaborator's navigation and ensure only relevant collections are visible to them. Show me how to control access levels for specific collaborator roles In the 'Advanced' permissions table, assign permissions for each collaborator role. Uncheck the 'View' permission for roles you want to restrict from accessing the collection. You can also adjust access levels by selecting or deselecting the 'Add', 'Update', and 'Delete' checkboxes. Go to CMS in your site's dashboard. Alternatively, you can click CMS in your editor , then click Your Collections . Hover over the relevant collection, click the More Actions icon and select Permissions & privacy . Click Advanced . You can fine-tune the permissions page settings if needed. For example, you could set the page permissions to "Members only - Specific members", then allow access to members with specific member roles or members who purchased a pricing plan . Learn more about restricting pages to specific types of members . - Studio Editor: Adding a Scroll Animation | Wix Expert
< Back Studio, Partners & Enterprise Wix Studio Studio Editor: Adding a Scroll Animation Add scroll animations to make the browsing experience more engaging and memorable. The animation's progress is directly linked to the scroll position, revealing or transforming an element as visitors scroll up and down. Tip: Check out our Wix Studio Academy course and learn more about adding animations & interactions . Adding a scroll animation To add a new scroll animation, select the element that triggers it. The animation you choose starts when visitors scroll past this element. Then, decide which element gets animated and select an animation type (In or Out). To add a scroll animation: Select the relevant element. Click the Open Inspector icon at the top right of the editor. Click the Animations and Effects tab . Click + Add under Scroll . Set up the animation: Choose which element shows the animation under Animated element . Select an option under Animation type to decide if the element animates into or out of its original placement: In: The animation's ending point is the current design on canvas (e.g. the element fades in as you scroll down). Out: The animation's starting point is the current design on canvas (e.g. the element fades out as you scroll down) Select an animation from the list. Tip: Hover over animations to see a preview of how they look. Notes: It is not possible to set a pinned element as the trigger, as it always stays in the same position (relative to the visitor's viewport). Make sure there's enough room on the page for the scroll animation to appear properly. For example, if your element is located on the first or last fold of the page, you might not see the scroll animation. Looking for horizontal scroll? While options in the Inspector apply to vertical scrolling, you can follow our Wix Academy tutorial to create a striking horizontal scroll effect. Customizing a scroll animation After choosing an animation, set it up to behave the way you want. The available settings depend on the specific animation you choose. To customize a scroll animation: Select the relevant element. Click the Open Inspector icon at the top right of the editor. Click the Animations and Effects tab . Click the scroll animation you want to change. Click Adjust Animation to change its settings: Direction: Choose the direction the animation should come from (e.g. from left, from above). Scale: Set the target size for the element in this animation. For example, 80% means the element shrinks by 20% in the animation. Distance: Decide how far the element moves in this animation. Animation area: Decide at what point while scrolling the animation starts and stops. 0% is the bottom of the screen and 100% is the top. For example, if you set the area to 0% - 50%, the animation starts when the element is at the bottom of the screen and stops when it reaches the middle. Tip: Enable the Scroll to preview toggle to see the animation you're creating, directly on the canvas. Removing a scroll animation You can remove a scroll animation at any time from the Inspector panel. To remove a scroll animation: Select the relevant element or section. Click the Open Inspector icon at the top right of the editor. Click the Animations and Effects tab . Hover over the animation and click the More Actions icon . Click Remove . Troubleshooting scroll animations The scroll effect appears too late If your scroll animation starts too late or doesn’t behave as expected, you can adjust the Animation type (In or Out) and Animation Area settings to fix the issue. Watch the video tutorial to find out what’s causing the delay, and how to fix it. (Mobile only) The scroll effect does not appear in landscape mode When viewing your client's site on a mobile device, the scroll animation might stop working if the visitor rotates their screen mid-browsing. In other words, if they flip their phone to horizontal (landscape mode) while scrolling the page, the scroll animation won't appear. To resolve this, visitors can refresh the page while in landscape mode – this will "restart" the animation. Click View Report in a section to see an in-depth report about each sales activity. Learn more about your sales reports . FAQs Click a question to learn more about the Sales Overview. What's the difference between the Sales Overview and Store Analytics? The Sales Overview includes all purchases made throughout your site. This includes all bookings, services, coaching, consultations and more. Store Analytics focuses on purchases and transactions made through your online store. Why is there a discrepancy between sales reports and the sales shown in the Contact Panel? If you have 2 contacts with the same email address, there may be a difference in the data shown in sales reports and in a contact's purchase stats. The Contact Panel shows sales based on each unique contact, so you’ll see sales for just that 1 contact. In contrast, sales reports filter sales by email address, so sales for both contacts with the same email will be shown. Why is there a difference between the Sales Overview and Payments tab? You may see different numbers in the Sales Overview and the Payments tab because they use different rules and time references: Sales reports includes both 'Paid' status and 'Unpaid' orders. The Payments tab only shows payments that were paid online or manually marked as 'Paid'. Sales reports are grouped by the order creation date. In the Payments tab, orders are grouped by the transaction or payment date. Sales reports use your site’s time zone, while the Payments tab uses UTC. Why do Total sales not match Gross sales in the 'Top selling items' section in the Sales Overview? This usually happens when discounts are applied to orders. When a discount is applied to an order, it will be deducted from the total sales, but won't be counted in item sales. If you are not sure whether this is due to discounts, check if discounts were applied in the Sales over time report and check the Gross sales in the report. When I click an item in the 'Top selling items' section, it shows 0 sales. Why is that? The Item report only shows data for products currently listed on your site. If the item you clicked has since been deleted or archived, all metrics will display as 0. Can I access this page on my mobile device? Yes, you can check out the Sales Overview on the go with the Wix app or Wix Studio app. Go to your site in the Wix app or Wix Studio app. Tap Manage . Tap Analytics and select Sales Overview . Can I subscribe to the Sales Overview? Yes, you can subscribe to the overview and receive the data directly to your email. The email includes sections that correspond to those found in your dashboard, providing you with a comprehensive view of your site’s sales. To subscribe on the dashboard: Go to Sales Overview in your site's dashboard. Click Subscribe at the top right.
