Start by creating a custom template based on an existing site in your workspace or from a blank canvas. Customize the layout, design and apps to align with your vision. Then, save it as a template. For future projects, just choose the template you want to start with and then customize it based on each clients' requirements.

Tip:

We also have several ready-made Wix Studio templates that you can use to build your sites.

Creating a custom template

To create a custom template, you have two options: choose an existing site in your workspace or create a template from scratch.

You need to have at least one site in your workspace to create a custom template from an existing site. This allows you to transform your site into a reusable template for future projects. If you're creating a template from scratch, you can proceed without any existing sites in your workspace and choose to build using either the Wix Editor or the Studio Editor.

FAQs

Click on a question below to learn more about custom templates in Wix Studio.

A great way to use custom templates is to create generic templates that you can use for one type of client or project.

For example, you can create an eCommerce template and then you can use it as a foundation for any client that needs an eCommerce site. This streamlines the process of creating sites, saving you time and providing your team with a great starting point to build sites efficiently.

Yes, you can sell your custom templates anywhere. Once you've created a custom template that is ready and published, you can add your template as a digital product on your Wix site or any other platform to start selling. Learn more about selling your custom templates.

If you're a Wix Partner, you can also showcase and sell your Studio templates in the Wix Marketplace.

Click the More Actions icon

on a template, then Edit template to make changes to it. When editing a template, you're making changes only to the template itself. It does not affect any site using the template or the original site you based it on.

If you want to keep the original template as well, we recommend that you first duplicate the template, edit it with the changes you want, and then save it as a new template.

There is no limit to the number of templates you can have in a workspace.

The following content is not copied over to your custom template:

  • Store orders and invoices

  • Contacts and email campaigns
