Studio Editor: Troubleshooting Performance Issues in the Editor
While working on a site in the Studio Editor, you might notice that the editor is not performing as expected. This may manifest as lagging, slowness, or the editor crashing completely.
Performance issues in the editor can be caused by large amounts of site content, as well as complex site structures. Use the suggestions in this article to learn more about refining the site, and keeping your editor functioning as expected.
Check global sections
Global sections are a great way to sync content and design across site pages. However they‘re generally content-heavy, and having a lot of them on a single site may cause issues in your editor.
We recommend checking the number of global sections on the site, and using the guidelines below to reduce them:
Check for unused global sections
You may have previously set up a global section, and now only use it on 1 page or none at all. We recommend deleting any unused global sections. If a global section is only displayed on 1 page, you can detach it from the global section.
Use the same global section across breakpoints
Creating separate global sections for each breakpoint (e.g. one header that only shows on desktop and another that only shows on mobile) duplicates content and can impact performance.
We advise keeping the same global section across breakpoints. You can adjust the responsive settings and element visibility per breakpoint to suit your design needs.
Check the site's structure
If a site contains a lot of layout tools and content, its general structure may affect your editor's performance.
Select the options below to learn more about optimizing a site for the best possible editor performance:
Delete unused containers
If the site you're working on contains large amounts of unused or empty containers, it may affect the editor's performance. We recommend using the Layers panel to check for empty containers and deleting them if necessary.
Avoid duplicating sections for different breakpoints
You may have duplicated sections to use across breakpoints. As with global sections, duplicated content can impact the editor's performance and function. We recommend using a single section and adjusting its responsive settings and element visibility per breakpoint to suit your design needs.
Avoid a large number of breakpoints
All Studio Editor sites come with 3 breakpoints (desktop, tablet, and mobile).
Adding more breakpoints with design overrides can increase the complexity of the site's layout.
We recommend reevaluating the need for additional breakpoints where possible. As an alternative, you can set the responsive behaviors of page elements per breakpoint to ensure they look good on all screen sizes.
