Viewing Google's Cached Version of Your Site

Google previously let you view a cached snapshot of your site's pages directly from search results. In 2024, Google discontinued this feature: it removed the cached link from search results, and the "cache: search" operator no longer returns results. This change applies to all sites, not just sites built with Wix, and doesn't affect your site's SEO or ranking.

Why Google's cache feature was retired

Google's cache tool was originally built to help people view a page when it couldn't load directly, such as during a site outage. According to Google, this is far less necessary today, since page load reliability has improved.

As a result, Google phased the feature out during 2024 and:

  • Removed the cached link from search results

  • Discontinued the "cache: search" operator

  • Retired the noarchive meta tag rule, which site owners had used to opt out of caching

It's no longer possible to view Google's cache of a page, for any site.

How to view an archived version of your site

If you want to see an older or historical version of one of your pages, use the Wayback Machine, a free tool from the Internet Archive that isn't affiliated with Google.

To view an archived version of your page:

  1. Go to web.archive.org.

  2. Enter your page's URL in the search bar.

  3. Select a date from the calendar to view a snapshot from that time, if one is available.

Note: Not every page or every date will have an archived snapshot. Coverage depends on how often the Wayback Machine's crawler visited that URL.

Tip:

If you want to confirm how Google currently sees and indexes your live page (not a historical snapshot), use Google Search Console's URL Inspection Tool.
