Troubleshooting Google Analytics
Adding a Google Analytics Tracking ID to your Wix site lets you track the number of visitors to your site, where they come from, how long they stay, what keywords they use to find your site, and more.
If you're experiencing issues using Google Analytics, try the following troubleshooting steps:
Step 1 | Make sure your domain is connected to Wix correctly
You can check your domain connection using Wix Domain Assistant.
Step 2 | Make sure you haven't added the HTML element
Check to make sure you haven't added Google Analytics using the HTML tool.
Step 3 | Make sure you haven't added Google Analytics multiple times
Check that you haven't added Google Analytics to both Google Tag Manager and Marketing Integrations.
If you've added it in multiple locations, remove it from one of the locations to allow Google Analytics to work properly.
Step 4 | Use DebugView to check your Google Analytics connection
After adding your Google Analytics (GA4) tracking code to your Wix site, it may take some time before you see statistics in your Google Analytics account.
If you are no longer receiving data in Google Analytics, you can use Google's DebugView to troubleshoot connection issues. DebugView shows you the events that Analytics collects in real time.
Step 5 | Check if you have a cookie banner on your site
When you add the cookie banner to your site, it automatically disables the usage of non-essential cookies and scripts until your visitor provides consent. Learn More
As a result, Google Analytics will only collect information after a visitor approves using the relevant cookies.
Note about Google Analytics and cookie banners:
Using a cookie banner on your site can reduce the site traffic recorded by GA4. This is because some visitors might not give their consent to be tracked. For this reason, it is normal if you see a drop in your Google Analytics numbers.
Due to recent regulations that apply to Google, if you don't have a cookie banner on your site and a site visitor comes from a country that requires consent (e.g. those covered by GDPR) no data is sent to Google Analytics. Google only tracks sessions when visitors give explicit consent. As you know your target audience best, use this information to make an informed decision about whether to add a cookie banner.
