Wix Forms: Troubleshooting

If you (or your visitors) are experiencing issues with one of your forms, the information below can help you understand the possible cause and solution.

How do I know if I'm using old Wix Forms or new Wix Forms?

This article will help you understand the differences between old and new Wix Forms.

New Forms

Click the issue you are having below to learn how to resolve it:

If you are experiencing an issue with receiving notifications to your inbox:

  1. Check your Spam or Junk folder for emails from no-reply@wixsiteautomations.com or reply-to@wixforms.com.

  2. Whitelist the following addresses:

    • Domains: *@automations.ascendbywix.com, *@crm.wix.com and *@wixforms.com

    • Email: no-reply@test.wixshoutout.com

      Notes:

      • After whitelisting each of the addresses above, republish the site.

      • Remember to include the asterisk (*) when whitelisting the relevant domains. This will ensure that all the variants of the first part of the email address are whitelisted.

  3. Check your automation recipients:

    1. Go to Automations in your site's dashboard.

    2. Open the automation that sends your form notification email.

    3. In the Send an email action, check the Recipients field and make sure it contains the correct email address.

    4. If the sender and recipient email are the same, change the recipient email. Some email providers treat these messages as spam.

No. Changing your Wix account email address does not update the recipient in your form automations. You need to edit each relevant automation and update the Recipients field with your new email address.

If your visitors are not able to enter information in the form on your live site, check:

  • There are no overlapping elements placed above the fields in your form in the editor.

  • That you haven't added any Velo by Wix elements to your form. Adding new fields should be done through Wix Form settings.

New Wix Forms include built-in spam filters with stronger spam protection options. If you’re using an old form and receiving spam submissions, consider recreating the form with new Wix Forms so you can use the latest spam protection settings, including Advanced and reCAPTCHA.

If you are experiencing an issue with receiving notifications to your inbox:

  1. Check your Spam or Junk folder for emails from no-reply@wixsiteautomations.com or reply-to@wixforms.com.

  2. Whitelist the following addresses:

    • Domains: *@automations.ascendbywix.com, *@crm.wix.com and *@wixforms.com

    • Email: no-reply@test.wixshoutout.com

      Notes:

      • After whitelisting each of the addresses above, republish the site.

If your form works on desktop but not on mobile, check for overlapping elements that might affect mobile responsiveness. Use the mobile editor to adjust the layout and placement of your form. If the issue persists, test the form on different devices and browsers to identify if it is device-specific.

For us to best assist you, it helps to have the following information ready:

  • The URL of your Wix site

  • The name and version of the web browser you're using

  • The name and version of your computer's operating system

  • A screenshot of your console view (see below for steps)

How do I take a screenshot of my console view?

  1. Open an incognito window in Google Chrome (Ctrl + Shift + N).

  2. Sign in to Wix and open your editor.

  3. Go to the area where you noticed the issue and try to repeat the steps.

  4. Press Ctrl + Shift + J (PC) or Cmd + Option + J (Mac) to open the Console.

Tip: If the shortcut doesn’t work, right-click the page and select Inspect.

  5. Click the Console tab at the top, then press F5 to refresh the page.

  6. Take a screenshot of this tab.

Old Forms

Click the issue you are having below to learn how to resolve it:

Notifications for old forms are managed in Wix Automations, not in your form settings. When you don't receive a notification email, check the automation for your form first, then check the recipients, activation status, and delivery.

Important:

  • Existing recipients: Adding a recipient does not remove the recipients that are already listed. Remove any recipient or role that should no longer receive notification emails.

  • Non-collaborators: To notify someone who is not a site collaborator, add them as a contact on your site first.

To check the automation for your form:

  1. Go to Automations in your site's dashboard.

  2. Click App automations.

  3. Look for the automation that includes your form name.

  4. Click the More Actions icon next to it and click Edit.

  5. If there is no automation for your form, create one using the Form submitted trigger.

To check who receives notification emails:

  1. Go to Automations in your site's dashboard.

  2. Click App automations.

  3. Look for the automation that includes your form name.

  4. Click the More Actions icon next to it and click Edit.

  5. Select the Send an email action.

  6. Scroll to Set recipients in the left panel.

    • If needed: Click Show additional settings if you do not see Set recipients.

  7. Check every recipient listed.

  8. If Collaborator Roles such as Admin or Co-Owner are listed, remove that group if you do not want those collaborators to receive every submission.

To check if the automation is active:

  1. Go to Automations in your site's dashboard.

  2. Click App automations.

  3. Look for the automation that includes your form name.

  4. Click the More Actions icon next to it and click Edit.

  5. Click Apply to save any changes.

  6. Go back to the Automations dashboard and confirm the automation is active.

  7. Open the automation activity log.

    • If it says No runs yet: The automation has not run and no notification has been sent.

Notes

  • If the activity log shows that the email was sent but the email did not arrive, check the recipient's delivery settings.

  • Publishing your site does not publish automation changes. Automation changes are managed separately in Wix Automations.

When the activity log shows the email was sent, the issue is usually related to delivery for the recipient address. Check the recipient mailbox, email provider settings, sender and recipient addresses, domain authentication, and spam filtering. Whitelist the following:

  • Domains: @automations.ascendbywix.com, *@crm.wix.com and *@wixforms.com

Note: Remember to include the asterisk (*) when whitelisting the relevant domains. This will ensure that all the variants of the first part of the email address are whitelisted.

  • Email: no-reply@test.wixshoutout.com

After whitelisting each of the addresses above, republish the site.

Important: Submissions caught by your spam filter do not trigger notification emails.

Check each of the following:

  • The role you selected has someone assigned to it. A role with no user assigned notifies nobody.

  • The collaborator has accepted their invitation. People with a pending invite don't receive notifications.

  • The collaborator has Wix Inbox permissions so they can view and respond to submissions. Manage this in Roles & Permissions in your dashboard.

This usually means the change was made in a different automation from the one sending your notification emails. It can also happen when a new automation uses the wrong Form submitted trigger.

Important: Adding a new recipient does not remove the previous recipient. Remove any old recipients who should no longer receive notifications.

To check which automation sends your notifications:

  1. Go to Automations in your site's dashboard.

  2. Click App automations.

  3. Look for the pre-installed app automation that includes your form name.

  4. Update recipients in that automation if it is still active.

To check the trigger for an old form:

  1. Go to Automations in your site's dashboard.

  2. Click App automations.

  3. Look for the pre-installed app automation that includes your form name.

  4. Edit the automation that should send your old form notifications.

  5. Make sure the automation uses the old Wix Forms Form submitted trigger.

  6. Confirm your old form appears in the form list after you choose the trigger.

    • If your form does not appear: Go back and choose the old Wix Forms trigger.

Tip: Trigger selection: Old forms and new Wix Forms use different Form submitted triggers. If your old form does not appear after you choose a trigger, you may have selected the new Wix Forms trigger.

You may have more than one active automation using the same trigger for the same form. This often happens when a custom automation was created while the pre-installed app automation was still active.

To stop duplicate notification emails:

  1. Go to Automations in your site's dashboard.

  2. Look for more than one automation that references the same form.

  3. Open the automation you do not need.

  4. Deactivate the duplicate automation.

In Automations, enable the Dynamic Reply-To Email toggle so replies go to the email address the visitor entered in the form. This helps your team reply directly to the person who submitted the form instead of replying to a default sender address.

A duplicated form is a separate form. Your existing automation stays connected to the original form, so the duplicated form does not send notifications until you connect it to an automation.

To connect notifications for a duplicated form:

  1. Go to Automations in your site's dashboard and open the automation for the original form.

  2. Add the duplicated form to the automation, or create a new automation for the duplicated form.

A collaborator or role only receives notification emails when the role is assigned, the collaborator has accepted the invitation, and the collaborator has the right permissions. Check each of these settings before changing the automation again.

Note: A role with no assigned collaborators does not notify anyone.

To check collaborator and role recipients:

  1. Make sure the role you selected has at least one person assigned to it.

  2. Make sure the collaborator accepted their invitation.

  3. Make sure the collaborator has Wix Inbox permissions so they can view and respond to submissions.

  4. To notify someone who is not a collaborator, add them as a contact on your site first.

For old forms, Inbox notifications are not created automatically. Email notifications are set up for you, but Inbox alerts need to be added as a separate automation action.

Note: Site collaborators need Wix Inbox permissions to see and respond to submissions. Manage collaborator permissions in Roles & Permissions in your dashboard.

To add Wix Inbox notifications:

  1. Go to Automations in your site's dashboard.

  2. Click App automations.

  3. Open the automation for your form.

  4. Add a second action and select Show in Inbox.

  5. Make sure the automation is active.

If your visitors are not able to enter information in the form on your live site, check:

  • There are no overlapping elements placed above the fields in your form in the editor.

  • That you haven't added any Velo by Wix elements to your form. Adding new fields should be done through Wix Form settings.

To protect your forms from spam, add a reCAPTCHA field that verifies your visitors aren't robots.

  1. Click the form in the editor.

  2. Click Add New Field.

  3. Click Anti Spam in the left menu.

  4. Click the Add icon

    next to reCAPTCHA.

If you cannot see form submissions in your submissions table, your form may have collected submissions before the submissions table was created. A submissions table only shows submissions collected after the table exists.

When you add a form on your site, go into the form settings and click Create Submissions Table. If your form was collecting data before you created a submissions table, those earlier submissions do not appear in the table.

Important:

  • Deleted collections: If you delete a CMS collection for a form that is live on your site, you need to create the submissions table again.

  • Old form storage: Old form submissions are stored in the Wix Forms app, not in a CMS collection. The item limit on your CMS collections does not apply to old form submissions, so reaching that limit is not the reason submissions are missing.
