Wix Automations: Working with the Automations Agent
The automations agent is an AI assistant inside Wix Automations that turns your plain‑language requests into draft automations. It focuses on your goals and translates them into triggers, actions, conditions, and timing that you can then review and refine.
Note:
The automations agent is for creating new automations or updating existing automations inside Wix Automations only. You always need to review what it creates, adjust anything you want, save the automation, and activate it.
Using the automations agent
When you use the automations agent, you start a short chat instead of building your automation steps manually. You describe what should happen, when, and the agent suggests an automation that you can open in the regular editor and finish configuring.
To use the automations agent:
Go to Automations in your site's dashboard.
Click + Create Automation at the top right.
Click Create with AI to build your automation with AI.
Chat with the AI assistant to define your automation. Each automation needs a trigger and at least one action. You can also add steps such as conditions, delays, or additional actions to the flow.
Tip: For limitations around the 'Scheduled time' trigger, see the FAQ section below.
When ready, click Build This Automation.
Best practices for using the automations agent
The automations agent works best when your request clearly explains what should start the automation, what should happen next, and when each step should happen. The more specific you are, the easier it is for the agent to build the flow you need.
When writing your request, try to include these parts:
Your goal: What do you want to achieve (e.g. increasing a customer lifetime value).
The trigger: What event starts the automation (e.g. when a new order is placed).
The action: What should happen after the trigger (e.g. send a "thank you" email with a 10% coupon on next purchase).
The timing: Should an action happen right away or after a delay (e.g. wait 8 days to see if a new purchase was made).
Any condition: Should the automation check something before continuing (e.g. if a purchase wasn't made, send a "complete the set" email featuring more products to sell in my store).
Tips for phrasing your request to the agent:
Try writing to the AI agent using the following format: "To achieve [goal], when [trigger] happens, [action]. If [condition], wait [time], then [next action]."
List actions in the order you want them to happen. If your automation has more than one step, describe them in sequence. For example, send an email first, wait 3 days, then create a task or send another email.
Understanding the limitations of the automations agent
The automations agent can help you create an automation faster, but some actions still need extra review or manual setup in the builder. Before you activate your automation, check the details carefully to make sure each action is set up the way you want.
Send an Email Action
When you ask the automations agent to add a 'Send an Email' action, include these details in your request:
Who should receive the email: The automations agent can only set the recipient as the 'contact from the trigger' or the 'site owner'. If you would like it to be anyone else, you will need to manually change it in the builder.
What the email should achieve: Include the goal of the email so that the agent can accurately set up the contents of your email action.
The design style or theme you want: Describe the look for your email so that the automation agent can create an email that best matches your business.
For example, you can ask the agent to send a thank-you email to a customer after a purchase, using a clean and modern design.
Note: The automation agent cannot edit an existing email. If you want to change an email later, you'll need to create a new email and replace the old one.
Actions with specific site items
For actions with lists of specific site items, the automations agent can only use items that already exist on your site. It cannot create new items for you.
Make sure you mention the exact name of the item you want the agent to use. For example, a label named 'Contact me', a coupon named 'Black Friday', a pipeline named 'New Lead'.
Note: If the item does not already exist, or if its name is unclear, you need to create or select it manually after the automation is created.
Actions that require manual configuration
The automations agent can add some actions to the flow, but it cannot fully set them up for you. After the automation is created, you need to open these actions and complete the setup manually.
This applies to the following actions:
Add a label
Run Velo code
Google Sheets integration
Custom Agent
FAQs
Click a question below to learn more about working with the automations agent.
What happens after I click 'Build This Automation'?
After clicking Build This Automation, the automations agent creates a draft. Review the trigger, timing, conditions, and any action settings before saving or activating.
Note: The automation agent creates a draft only. You still need to review the automation and complete any manual setup before it can be activated.
Can I use more than one trigger in the same automation?
No. Each automation can only have one trigger. If you want the same flow to start in different ways, create separate automations for each trigger.
What do I need to know about adding a 'Scheduled time' trigger?
Use a ' Scheduled time' trigger when you want an automation to start at a specific date and time, instead of being triggered by something that happens on your site. This is useful for one-time campaigns, recurring reminders, and seasonal promotions such as a Black Friday sale.
If you are scheduling a campaign or promotion, include as much detail as possible, such as the date, time, audience, and action you want the automation to perform. If any details are missing, the automations agent may ask follow-up questions.
When setting up a 'Scheduled time' trigger with the automations agent, you can choose from these scheduling options:
Once: Run the automation one time on a specific date and at a specific time (e.g. tomorrow at 2:00 PM).
Daily: Run the automation every day or every few days (e.g. every 3 days).
Weekly: Run the automation on specific days of the week or every few weeks (e.g. every Monday).
Monthly: Run the automation on a limited set of monthly patterns (e.g. on the 15th of every month or on the first Monday of every month).
You can also set an end date and time if you want the automation to stop automatically.
Important: Monthly scheduling supports limited patterns only. If your request does not match a supported monthly option, the automation may use a daily or weekly schedule instead.
Can the automations agent create new labels, coupons, or pipelines for me?
No. For actions that use specific site items, the automations agent can only use items that already exist on your site. It cannot create new items for you.
Can I edit an automation after the agent creates it?
Yes. After the automations agent creates the draft, you can open it in the automation builder and make changes at any time.
This is useful if you want to adjust the trigger, update actions, change timing, or finish any setup the automations agent could not complete.
