Choosing a template
Choosing the right template is like finding the perfect canvas for your online masterpiece. It's the first step in creating a website that truly represents you or your business.

Since every template is fully customizable, it’s okay if the content isn’t an exact match for your website topic. Think about the look and feel you want for your website (e.g. bold, simple, elegant, playful) and then browse multiple categories to find one that fits the style you had in mind.

Pre-designed templates versus blank templates
When designing your site, you have the option of choosing a pre-designed template or a blank template. But what's the difference?
Pre-designed templates are those that already include sample content, color themes, galleries, inner pages and built-in business features. This helps to provide you with design foundations, guidance and useful features from the start - so that you can get your site online as fast as possible.
Blank templates allow you to start completely from scratch and take charge of your site design from the get go. You can choose from an entirely blank template, or select one of the blank templates with a guiding layout already in place.

Does the template I choose look the same on mobile as it does on desktop?
The template you choose is automatically optimized for mobile viewing. This means the layout and placement of elements may be different.
Can I download or export a template?
You cannot download or export Wix templates. Wix sites are standard HTML5 sites built with Wix's technology. They must be hosted and operated on Wix's servers.
You can, however, connect a domain to your Wix site, and purchase and manage the domain with another provider.
Wix offers a cloud-based SaaS (Software as a Service) technology, which has many advantages. Learn more about the advantages of using SaaS technology.
Can I purchase a template for my sole use?
It is currently not possible to purchase a template and make it unavailable for others to use.
I've chosen my template, but can't open it. What can I do?
If you are unable to open a template, please disable your browser's pop-up blocker.
Can I start from a blank template?
Absolutely! From the template pages you can choose a blank template that gives you the utmost freedom to build your site exactly how you want. You can also choose a blank template with a guiding layout already in place (wireframe) - you just need to add your content.
Where can I find inspiration for my site?

Can I edit a template I like on the Wix Explore page?
The examples on the Wix Explore page are real sites created by real Wix users. These examples are not available as templates to edit.
Can I use AI to build a website on Wix?
Yes, you can use AI to build your site on Wix. With Wix's AI tools, you can create a personalized website by answering a few questions about your preferences and needs. The AI will generate a custom design that you can further customize using the Wix Editor. Wix has a number of additional AI tools available. Learn more about Wix's AI tools.
Can I change the template of my existing website?
No, once you select a template and start editing it, you cannot change it. However, you can create a new site with a different template and transfer your Premium plan and domain to the new site.
Tip: Before starting with a new template, make a list of the elements and content you want to transfer or recreate to streamline the process.
What should I do if I can’t find a template that fits my business needs?
If you can’t find an exact match, choose a template in a similar category and customize it. All templates are fully editable, so you can change text, images, colors, and layout to suit your needs.

Can I create a website in Wix and transfer it to another platform?
No, Wix websites cannot be transferred to other platforms due to its proprietary technology. You will need to recreate the site on the new platform manually.
Can I create multiple websites under one Wix account?
Yes, you can create multiple websites under one Wix account for free. However, each site will need its own Premium plan if you want to connect a custom domain or access premium features.
